PRODUCT INFORMATION
Essentially this a machine you would consider buying if you have a horse of a nervous temperament and one which has issues with normal clipping motor noise, or if you have some physical impairment which makes it advisable to use a smaller lighter machine. Blade selection is the next important question to resolve.. There are several wide blades manufacture and recommended as suitable for full body clipping, but in our experience the best yet manufactured are the two MOSER Size #10 2.3mm wide blades – Standard and Fine.

Before starting to clip be clear about is the pace at which you clip. This is not suggesting that either the “Avalon” clipper or the detachable A5 type blade cannot cope – far from it! It is a question of appreciating that your animal has a nervous temperament and clipping is not a race against time. Clipping with detachable blades is capable of producing high quality clips especially if the clipper is allowed to do the work – (or which it is more than capable) and your hand is an instrument of guidance – NOT the driving force!

Considering most wide detachable blades started life as dog blades (for larger breeds) and later become described as suitable for horse’s, selection becomes important in relation to the coat texture of the horse in question. Generally the two MOSER wide blades – both of which are specialist horse blades are the best against all comers. The “Avalon” was originally supplied with a Moser detachable wide 2.3mm CeraBlade. This was a gun metal blue ceramic powder coated blade, which at the time was claimed to give a longer clipping life by retaining its sharpness due to the applied ceramic coating. In time it was realised this coating created problems for re-sharpening and the blade was discontinued. Today the “Avalon” is supplied with the Moser steel standard wide 2.3mm blade one of the most successful horse clipping blades produced. When clipping any animal irrespective of size two blades are a wise precaution!

Evolving from the Moser Max 45, but in cordless type mode, with increased power and marketed under the Moser “Horseline” range the “Avalon” was an instant success from day one of its launch in the autumn of the year 2000. The concept of a compact lightweight and remarkably powerful small cordless clipper fitted with a blade that seemed fool proof. From that first day until the present time the “Avalon” has built a proven success record with the result that there must be hundreds if not thousands of horse owners who have found it possible to clip a nervous horse without sedation thanks to the quiet running all powerful “Avalon!” In keeping with most clippers an element of routine maintenance is required to maintain the clipper in peak performance. Drive tips do wear with constant use and clipper performance may become affected as a result –

BATTERY PACK CARE
The “Avalon” is supplied with a nickel-metal hydride battery, abbreviated as NiMH or Ni-MH. Its chemical reactions are somewhat similar to the largely and now obsolete nickel cadmium cell (NiCd). A NiMH battery can have two to three times the capacity of an equivalent size NiCd, and their energy density that of a Lithium – ion cell.

Discharging
A fully charged cell supplies an average 1.25 V/cell during discharge; down to about 1.0-1.1 V/cell (further discharge may cause permanent damage in the case of multi-cell packs, due to polarity reversal).
Over-discharging
A complete discharge of a battery can result in one or more cells going into polarity reversal which can cause permanent damage to those cells. When this happens, the good cells will start to drive the discharged cell in reverse, which can cause permanent damage to that cell.
Self-discharge
The self-discharge rate varies greatly with temperature, where lower storage temperature leads to slower discharge rate and longer battery life.
Storage
Many equine owners traditionally clip for a limited period each year, with the clipper and battery stored for long periods. As batteries are expensive items, it is in the owner’s interest to be aware of the best way to store the battery during times of inactivity. Please consult the manual and strictly adhere to the recommendations of the manufacturer.
