PRODUCT INFORMATION
The Moser “Horseline” Artiko is basically a cloned copy of the highly successful Moser Max 45 – one of the most powerful dog clippers on the market. However like the cordless version – the Moser “Avalon” it has been “seriously” up-graded to provide full body clipping for horses.

The Artiko inherits all the qualities of both the Max 45 and “Avalon” and when fitted with the supplied Moser 2.3mm #10F steel wide blade, will certainly often prove to be the difference between clipping or not on many a nervous animal.

With many horse breeds and resulting cross breeds occasionally one will meet with a coat texture which creates difficulties and in some case cannot be clipped successfully with the Moser “standard” 2.3mm blade. Other wide blades as referred to below are worth considering. Unfortunately results are difficult to predict without first attempting to clip. However In most cases the “standard” 2.3mm version of this blade will prove successful. One of the advantages of using detachable type blades is that the range is extensive – unlike the traditional livestock type blades. Therefore like the professional dog groomer the opportunity for experiment to find the best blade for your animal is possible.

When difficulty is experience, start with slowing down the speed at which you attempt to “push” the machine/blade through the coat hair. Success may often be achieved if you just “crawl” over the area avoiding the blades becoming clogged with hair. This may seem a bit of a “pain” but then presumably you are in the first instant using this type machine because a traditional machine is not for whatever reason acceptable to either you or your horse or both.

If this is not the case then clearly you should not be using the “Artiko” or similar type clippers, and should use a tradition heavy-duty unit.

Originally launched and supplied with a gun metal blue Moser detachable wide 2.3mm CeraBlade. This was a ceramic powder coated blade thought and claimed to give a longer clipping life by retaining its sharpness due to the applied ceramic coating.

The CERABLADE blade has been discontinued (2008)

The reason for the withdrawal of the “CERABLADE “ was due to being unable to maintain a constant and perfect re-sharpening to the original standard as new and when supplied direct from MOSER in German. Unfortunately the coating of ceramic powder sprayed onto these blades at the time of manufacturer was found to interfere in certain instances with the lapping process when re-sharpening and this created a situation where certain individual blades (not all!) could not achieve MOSER sharpening standards.

Owners of the clippers or trimmers using the CERABLADE might consider not discarding the blade as normally after several re-sharpening processes it should revert to the original pure steel 2.3mm #10F “Standard” wide detachable Moser blade, losing its ceramic powdering on the sharpened face and would then be expected to thereafter re-sharpen to a professional cutting standard.

PLEASE NOTE: Initially for the first few occasions of re-sharpening variation in cutting performance and the clipping duration of individual blades should be expected to – and may well – vary between clips.

Today the “Artiko” is supplied with the Moser steel “standard” 2.3mm size #10F wide blade (our code: CB0208) (The original standard wide blade used before the advent of the CERABLADE) and which will cope perfectly (if correctly used) with most horse coats. This blade has been widely tested over a good number of years both in the UK and Europe and in our opinion is as good if not superior to the ceramic coated blade. Designed and manufactured as a blade specifically for full body horse clipper it has always been way ahead of any similar type blades when clipping horses or Alpacas.

Two other wide blades our test results found to be very successful on horses are the MOSER 2.3mm “Fine” #10F wide detachable blade (Product code CB0218) and the AESCULAP 2.4mm “Standard” #10W wide detachable blade (Product code CB0306)

Alternative makes of wide blades are available – not all have been specifically designed for horses and as such may give varying results. Moser narrow blades are some of the best available, and are suitable for any facial work, hogging and feathers. For leg feathers and hogging purposes use the Moser blades with a higher percentage of teeth!

Any breed of horse may from time to time present a clipping problem, and clips can and often do vary from season to season. The skill of clipping is knowing how to approach such problems! This is when the experienced operator has the advantage! When using “detachable” blade clippers a change in clipping attitude is needed! Fast clipping with long sweeping blows is OUT! All you will achieve is a blade – its teeth clogged with hair, and a good deal of frustration! Tramlines may appear as an added bonus!

Instead take a relaxed approach to the task, allow the machine to do the work, using your hand as a guide and not an instrument of pressure. By slowing down the speed at which you attempt to “push” the machine/blade through the coat hair you will achieve in most cases a perfect clip. Short clipping strokes are better and more effective.

With sticky greasy areas success can often be achieved if you just “crawl” over the area thus avoiding the blades becoming clogged with hair. This may seem a bit of a “pain” but then presumably you are in the first instant using this type machine because a traditional machine is not for whatever reason acceptable to either you or your horse or both. Hence speed is not essential!

When using the “detachable” blade style clippers one should be aware no matter how good they are they are not of the same power as a typical traditional type machines. Invariably one is using this type of clipper because the horse objects for whatever reason to a traditional noisy machine. Seen in this role as an alternative to not clipping or heavy sedation they are extremely valuable and with proper use and application perform as well as any traditional clipper, producing some quality clips on a range of horse or cattle breeds.

Practical experience as with most clipping of any animal is invaluable! Knowledge is never complete – no matter how experienced the operator! When doing full body clipping two blades are a wise precaution, just in case one suddenly goes blunt, which in fairness can happen with any make of clipper! For cattle or horse’s heads and intricate parts of the legs (udders in the case of dairy cows) one can select a suitable blade from an extensive range of “narrow” blades.

Equipped with an efficient two-speed 45w motor, it has all the superior qualities associated with a quality German built product. The attractive style of the casing enhances a shaped handpiece, giving the combination of balance and lightness, which will be popular with many female users. Various features put this machine into a superior category, especially the ability to operate at two speeds and over prolonged periods without any signs of overheating. With a very acceptable noise level it is almost vibration free.

In keeping with most clippers an element of routine maintenance is required to maintain the clipper in peak performance. Drive tips do wear with constant use and clipper performance may become affected as a result – therefore routine checking of the tip for wear and if found subsequent replacement is recommended. Keeping clean and lubricated is a worthy discipline to follow! This is a routine job which owners will find well within their ability and requires no additional special tool.

Owners of the clippers or trimmers using the CERABLADE should not necessarily discard these blades as normally after several re-sharpening processes they lose the ceramic powdering on the sharpened blade faces and as such therefore revert to the original pure steel 2.3mm wide detachable Moser blade, and would then be expected to thereafter re-sharpen to a professional cutting standard.

PLEASE NOTE: Whilst we are happy to sharpen these blades for customers it should be understood and appreciated that initially for the first few occasions of re-sharpening variation in both cutting performance and the clipping duration of certain individual blades should be expected to vary between clips. We regret we cannot guarantee quality performance in every instance when re-sharpening “CeraBlades” until they have been done a number of times.
