The TORNADO 93 Blower/Dryer - JANUARY 2004

By far the most popular of a range of dog groomers blower/dryers sold under the "Tornado" brand name, a British made product and one which fulfils the needs of most busy grooming parlours.

Designed to be used in a "point and dry" mode, (aimed at an animal in a cage or some other "arrested" position) or alternatively when fitted with the supplied flexible hose and nozzle, for hand drying which ever is the preferred method.

The Tornado 93 has a proven track record for reliability and has become one of the most favoured items of equipment to be seen in use in a vast number of grooming parlours both in the UK and many countries within Europe.

Attractive looking with a modern design and styling the casing is constructed in white plastic with cylindrical shape, which is easy to keep clean. When not in use the blower head can be angled and the height reduced to make storage easier.

For transport purposes it is easily taken apart, and can be re-assembled within a few minutes without the need for any tools.

Maintenance on the "93" is pretty basic; you can easily do it yourself. However for the machine to work at full capacity and fulfil its undeniable ability you must ensure you regularly clean the air in take filter. Grooming parlours are normally awash with airborne animal hair. This is most important, and if not done frequently you will place an unreasonable burden upon the motor which in time will cost you in "burnt out" repair bills! The air filter is situated at the rear end of the motor housing cone.

As previously stated, most areas within dog grooming parlours are burden with unlimited hair, and the power of the motor of the "93" is quick to suck this into the filter so that within a very short space of time the air in take is completely blocked. The filter is very easy to remove and can be quickly cleaned, washed if necessary, but do make sure it is completely dry before being replaced! New filters are readily available and are cheap compared to the consequents of either using a worn or dirty one.

The housing unit is fitted with two switches. The one on the left hand side is the "on/off" switch, and when switched on this will produce a gentle flow of cool air. By turning the control knob clockwise you increase the volume and flow of cool air.

The right hand switch will activate the warm/hot air the volume of which can be increased or decreased with the use of the control knob (turn to the right to increase the heat) Always check with your own hand the volume of heat before applying the heated air flow in the direction of an animal.

The angled plastic cone at the end of the nozzle can be removed with ease and if desired you can fit the supplied flexible hose with shaped nozzle. (Which can be removed if you wish to fit one of another type.) The flexible hose is a valuable asset when doing an animal "freehand." The hose supplied is approx 4ft in length (1.22m) and is fitted with screw clamps for a secure fitting.

When operating the noise level of the motor is low, and of a not unpleasant sound, but the level of noise does increase considerably when the heat and power volumes are turned up to the full limits. Having said that, in fairness few machines of this type are as quiet and most will emit a fairly high level of noise when operated at maximum power.

CONCLUSION:
A popular machine, probably the most frequently sold of its type! Innovative, well designed and a product, which over the years, has forged a good reputation for reliability and long levity in a working environment not renowned for care and attention - least of all to the question of maintenance!

Unfortunately like most reliable products they don't come cheap! However when you buy one of these you are purchasing a product, which should given the right care and attention, be around for a good many years, so you can be confident it is money well spent!
