Make:WOLSELEY Model:Swift Rating:90W Rotation rate:2000 d/strokes per min. DO NOT!
INFORMATION ABOUT THIS CLIPPERThe clipper is fitted with a reset button. This is designed to protect the machine from becoming overloaded and will operate automatically. Allow a short interval of a few minutes before re-setting the switch which is done by lightly depressing the switch. If the clipper persists in throwing the overload button you should seek qualified assistance. When greasing the headgears never use graphite. Molybdenum, or other electrically conductive greases This clipper will accept Liscop/Liveryman blades with the exception of the Liscop 102 standard horse blade Fitting the blades:Ensure the machine is disconnect from the power supply
On the assumption that the machine is not fitted with blades at the time proceed to turn the machine 180 degrees for comfortable working position (this should enable you to see the inner side of the clipper head. See fig 1) Take the upper blade (cutter) and position it so that it sits securely with the small oblong metal "lugs" on the clipper head inside the twin grooves situated at the lower end of the cutter blade. (See fig 1) At this point it is worth applying a drop of oil to lubricate the drive crank Next, place the lower blade (the comb) in position on top of the cutter. You will see two 7cm-diameter holes in the lower portion of the comb blade (either side of the maker's name) These holes fit over the two round metal blade lugs positioned on the clipper head (See fig 1 Then take the tension bolt and insert through both the lower plate (comb) and the upper plate (cutter) as well as through the head housing of the machine. With your index finger holding both the lower plate and tension bolt (comb) in place turn the machine 180 degrees to attach the tension spring and tension nut. Ensure the tension bolt is correctly sunk home into the bottom plate (comb) square inset by slightly twisting it. Tighten to take up the slack and to secure the blades only at this point. Tensioning the blades:To adjust the plate (blade) pressure (known as tensioning the blades) the machine should be running and pointed away from you and/or any animal for safety. Gradually slacken the tension nut (See main clipper diagram) until the upper cutter plate (cutter) is no longer exerting pressure on the lower cutter plate (comb) You will note a change of pitch in the sound of the motor. (Blade clatter) This indicates that the blades are too loose. Now tighten the tension nut until you feel slight resistance, this will indicated the motor is starting to labour. Between the two points - “chattering blades” and the start of the “motor labouring” will be found the correct clipping tension. Usually as a guide one full turn is sufficient, but this can depend on the age and life of the blades. Allowances should also be made for new or re-sharpened blades, as they need a period of time to "seat" after which further adjustment of the tensioning may be required If for some reason the machine fails to clip smoothly it is highly likely you have not correctly adjusted the tensioning. Adjustment should be in small amounts. Increase/decrease the tension nut by no more than ¼ turns (or less) at a time to achieve optimum cutting. In most cases failure to clip correctly is operator orientated rather than a fault with the machine. Practice is valuable! You may need to adjust the tension during the clip - this has nothing to do with any fault on the part of the clipper, rather a change in texture of the coat being clipped. (Sheep folk do it all the time!) Avoid setting the pressure on the cutter plate too high as this will lead to excessive heat build up and will rapidly cause the blades overheat and become blunt. Keep blades well oiled. Do please remember blades can go blunt at a moment’s notice due to high levels of dirt and grit with the animal’s coat especially in the case of horses during the first clip of the season. In the case of even the best groomed horses unless they have previously been wash there is likely to be a considerable build up of particles of grit and dust which can cause blade failure (on any type of blades!) very quickly. Oiling:
Use only light machine oil of good quality. Do not use sewing machine oil, bone or other oil. DO NOT use WD40 ever! Routine Maintenance:ServicingServicing should be carried out at regular intervals according to use, but at least every two years and more often if extensively used. Cable leadShould be checked regularly for cuts or other signs of damage (Hooves with shoes can inflict cable damage.) Cutter headAfter a period of 100 working hours the head needs to be dismantled for greasing & maintenance checks! This is best carried out at a qualified service centre The inside of the clipper head should be cleaned regularly and after each clipping session. Remove both blades. Using a soft brush clean thoroughly both the head and all components parts. After which wipe clean with a dry cloth. Reassemble the blades carefully and oil both blades and the cutter head. Air FilterThe air filters of which there are two (See clipper main diagram) are a very important part of the clipper -they provides cool air to the motor to prevent it from over heating. It is essential therefore that the air filters are kept clean at all times. (Filters should be cleaned at least every 30 minutes during operational use!) The air filter casings are easily removed by unscrewing and sliding them out from the clipper body casing. Clean the filters thoroughly removing all dirt and hair so that you can see clearly through the filter mesh. If greasy wash in a mild detergent and dry thoroughly before replacing. Do not attempt to insert any sharp objects through the filter casing as you may damage the armature windings. Replace the filter casing immediately after cleaning. Brushes.
Use only genuine Wolseley component parts Storage:
