DO NOT!

  • Attempt to work on the machine with it connected to the main power supply.
  • Attempt to clip a wet or perspiring animal.
  • Touch the blades when moving!
  • Switch the machine on with loose or missing blades. (In the interests of safety ensure that both blades are tightly seated.)
  • Over tighten the blades in an attempt to force them to clip.
  • Use if the voltage at your site is different to that on the clipper rating plate.
  • Attempt to remove or assemble the blades or any part of the clipper over straw, shavings or other materials. Only carry out such tasks on a specified area i.e. table or work bench otherwise essential parts may be lost.
  • Immerse either the machine or cutter head in liquid (oil/diesel/lubricant) of any kind.

Fitting the blades:

Ensure the machine is disconnect from the power supply

Unscrew to slacken the tension screw. (Fig 1)

Loosen both comb blade screws. (Fig 3)

Ensure the drive (oscillating) block (Fig 3) is correctly engaged in the square groove of the oscillator and is sufficiently lubricated.

If, as often is the case, the drive block swivels/moves, making it difficult to insert the "housing" of the cutter driving carrier over, take a small screwdriver or slim pen/pencil and hold the block in place whilst you get the cutter "housing" fitted over.

Take the upper cutting plate (cutter) and seat it on the two anchor pins provided. (Fig 2)

Check that it is securely held in place.

Now take the lower cutter plate (comb) sliding it beneath the heads of the two blade screws (Fig 3) and slide it right back until it touches the rear housing.

Then slightly tighten the two blade screws to hold the lower cutter plate (comb) in position.

Rotate the machine 180 degrees to view it from above and slightly tighten the tension screw to take up any slack before adjusting the blades further if necessary.

Once satisfied everything is in order rotate the clipper to reveal the underneath and tighten the two blade screws finally to securely lock the lower cutter plate (comb) in position.

Oil blades before commencing a test run with the clipper.

When operating for the first time after changing blades the machine should be pointed away from you and/or any animal before switching on to test.

Now test the clipper.

Tensioning the blades:

To adjust the plate pressure (tension the blades) the machine should be running and pointed away from you and/or any animal. Gradually slacken the tension screw (Fig 1) until the upper cutter plate (cutter) is no longer exerting pressure on the lower cutter plate (comb) You should denote a change in the sound of the motor.

Now tighten the tension screw (Fig 1) until you feel slight resistance, and apply roughly a further ¼ turn. Lock the position and test for cutting. In the event of over tightening you will hear the motor pitch labouring.

The patent clipping system guarantees long term clipping adjustment. Operators should bear in mind that the clipping system of the Heiniger Delta work with much less pressure having to be applied than is normally experienced with many traditional animal clipping machines. You should there be careful NOT to over tension the blades Slight adjustment may be necessary during the clipping operation and this is quite normal.

If for some reason the machine fails to clip smoothly it is highly likely you have not correctly adjusted the tensioning. You should increase/decrease the tension nut but no more than ¼ turns or less at a time to achieve optimum cutting. In most cases failure to clip correctly is operator orientated rather than a fault with the machine.

Avoid setting the pressure on the cutter plate too high as this will lead to excessive heat build up and will rapidly cause the blades overheat and become blunt. Keep blades well oiled.

Remember blades can go blunt at a moment’s notice due to high levels of dirt and grit within an animal’s coat - especially horses during the first clip of the season. In the case of even the best groomed horses unless they have been previously washed there is likely to be considerable particles of grit and dust which can cause rapid blade failure. Always select the right blade for the animals coat condition.

Oiling:

Oiling of the blades should be carried out at regular intervals during the clipping application.

Use only light machine oil of a good quality.

Routine Maintenance:

Is important and should be carried regularly and not conducted over straw, shavings, and other types of bedding. Preferably do your maintenance activities on a flat table surface or work bench, otherwise you risk small parts which can become lost in the process.

Cleaning:

Cleaning of both the blades and inside of the clipper head should be thoroughly carried out after every clipping session.

Remove all traces of oil and hair with a small stiff brush and wiped clean with a dry clean cloth. When completely free from hair clippings and oil, re oil all working parts and blades to prevent any occurrence of rust. Remember even the smallest spots of rust can have an adverse effect on the cutting performance of the blades - in some cases making clipping impossible.

Air Filters

The Filter is the “air intake” of the clipper and is the means by which it is cooled during operational activities. All filters require regular cleaning in order for the machine to function correctly. During the removal of the air filter-casing precautions should be taken to ensure no foreign matter gets into the machine. Filters can be effectively cleaned by using a stiff tooth brush or a semi stiff wire suede shoe clean brush. They should be cleaned on both sides. In certain cases were the filters have become greasy they can be washed in mild detergent and replaced only after being thoroughly dried.

Do NOT operate the machine without the filter in place.

Professional Servicing & Repairs

Should only be undertaken by qualified engineers appointed by the Manufacturer or his distributor

Regular servicing is necessary in accordance with the amount of use of the machine to protect it malfunction and to ensure it is kept in a high state of operational effectiveness. Machine should be serviced well before anticipated use.

Storage:

When not in use, having been thoroughly cleaned and oiled, the machine should be stored in a dry place preferably in your house.

Do not leave in tack rooms or stables

The same should apply to all blades.

MALFUNCTIONS.

Certain malfunctions can be rectified on site - others may need to be repaired by qualified and authorised service centres. We list several below to assist operators.

Upper (cutter) blade appears to move slowly

Cause: Laminated springs completely broken.

Get replaced by authorised service centre.

Upper blade does not move

Cause: Faulty cogwheel

Get replaced by authorised service centre

Tension nut jams

Cause: Thread has fouled or is rusty/Pressure spring has jammed

Get replaced by authorised service centre

Upper blade does not move

Cause: Faulty cogwheel

Get replaced by authorised service centre

Looseness in the laminated spring in the head anchorage

Cause: One or more of the fixing screws may have come lose

Get replaced by authorised service centre

Drive carrier has excessive play between the laminated springs

Cause: Laminated springs and/or fixing screws are worn out

Get replaced by authorised service centre

Driving carrier can only be raised up and or down with difficulty

Cause: The centre bush has been lost and need renewing

Get replaced by authorised service centre

Clipper cuts badly or not at all

Causes: Could be one of several reasons as listed below

  • One or both blades are blunt - get blades sharpened
  • Blades incorrectly ground when last sharpened - get re sharpened
  • Lack of sufficient oil - oil frequently - every few minutes
  • Tensioning of blades not correct - re-tension blades
  • Wet animal hair - Dry hair or stop clipping until the animal is naturally dry
  • Hairs between blades - remove blades and clean
  • Incorrect spacing between blades (see above) re-align blades correctly
  • Laminated blades are broken - get renewed by service centre
