DO NOT!

  • Attempt to work on the machine with it connected to the main power supply.
  • Attempt to clip a wet or perspiring animal.
  • Touch the blades when moving!
  •  Switch the machine on with loose or missing blades.
  • (In the interests of safety ensure that both blades are tightly seated.)
  • Over tighten the blades in an attempt to force them to clip.
  • Use if the voltage at your site is different to that on the clipper rating plate.
  • Attempt to dis-assemble the blades or any part of the clipper over straw, shavings or other materials. Only carry out such tasks on a specified area i.e. table or work bench otherwise essential parts may be lost.
  • Immerse either the machine or cutter head in liquid (oil/diesel/lubricant) of any kind.

Fitting the blades:

Blades are best fitted with the motor running. Press the black blade lever (2) against the casing of the clipper firmly and hold down whilst sliding the blade over the side angled plate (3). The angled plate area must always be kept clean and regularly oiled. To remove the blades, press the blade lever (2) against the clipper body and gently withdraw the blade.

For the purposes of sharpening do not separate the blades, but send away as a set.

Tensioning the blades:

Aesculap Favorita blades are made from extremely hard steel with high carbon steel content which makes them very effective when cutting as well as preserving the cutting edge.

Generally new blades should not require to be adjusted, and if properly sharpened the same should apply to re-ground blades. However, should you need to adjust the plate pressure (tension the blades) slacken the knurled screw (Blade diagram (11) and adjust very slightly until you can feel a degree of pressure. The knurled screw should only be adjusted to the extent that the upper cutter can be move manually from side to side with moderate pressure.

After an adjustment of the knurled screw always carryout a cutting test.  If the cutter head does not deliver a perfect cutting performance you can try a further limited adjustment. If that fails it may be that the blades need re-grounding,

Do not under any circumstance attempt to over tension as this will lead to excessive heat build up and will rapidly cause the blades to overheat and become blunt.  Always keep blades well oiled. Remember blades can go blunt at a moment’s notice due to high levels of dirt and grit with the animal’s coat.

In the case of even the best groomed animals unless they have been washed immediately prior to clipping there is likely to be particles of grit or dust which can cause rapid blade failure.

NOTE!

It is unwise to attempt to clip any animal without a spare set of sharpened blades available!

Oiling:

Oiling should be carried out before the machine is started.

Oiling of the blades should be carried out at regular intervals during the clipping application.

Use only light machine oil of a good quality.

Routine Maintenance:

NOTE!

Disconnect machine from the main power supply before you carry out any maintenance

Air Filter

Remove the air filter (4) several times a week if the clipper is constantly in use and thoroughly clean and blow out. Small soft wire brushes as sold for suede shoes are very good for this purpose, or a really stiff hard toothbrush. If washed make sure it is completely dry before being replaced.

Carbon brushes

If the clipper is in regular use the carbon brushes need to be checked at least every 12 months. To replace carbons first disconnect from the power supply.  Loosen the housing screws (6) and remove casing. Next loosen the two screws (8) and lift out PCB and carbon holder. Remove carbons. Check the length, which must be at least 4mm. If shorter carbons must be replaced before you restart the machine.

Blow out the carbon holder, and hook in carbon holder spring at the back and insert new carbons. Lower PCB (be careful not to jam or damage the cables) then push springs into carbon and tighten both screws. (8)  Assemble the machine fixing the housing cover with the four screws previously removed.  Do not screw down finally until you have made sure everything is correctly housed. Operate the clipper for a few seconds to ensure all is in working order. When satisfied, tighten the screws finally.

Cutter head

Should be cleaned after use. Remove any hair or oil from around the sliding plate (3) and the oscillating lever. Wipe the body casing with a soft cloth to remove hair and or oil.  Thoroughly clean the blade housing assembly using a soft brush clean on both the blade and clipper head and all component parts. Reassemble the blades having oil the cutter head.

Storage:

When not in use, having been thoroughly cleaned and oiled, the machine should be stored in a dry place preferably in your house. The same should apply to all blades.
