DO NOT!

  • Touch the blades when moving!
  • Switch the machine on with loose or missing blades. (In the interests of safety ensure that both blades are tightly seated.)
  • Clip at an angle to the body as this may increase the potential to cut the skin. Try to keep the blade flat to the contour of the body. Stretch any loose skin.
  • Not attempt to alter the tension mechanism of the detachable blade set. This is set at the factory, any alteration can affect the performance of your clipper
  • Push the clipper blades through the hair in an attempt to force them to clip. Allow the blades to do the work.
  • Immerse either the machine or cutter head in liquid (oil/diesel/lubricant) of any kind.

BLADE OPERATIONAL USES:

When used against the grain this blade gives a closer cut than the #30 blade. It produces a really nice finish on the top of the head and back of the neck of a densely coated Schnauzer, but the finish is too close for the Schnauzer bodywork. Works well on Terrier ears when working with the lay of the coat. Good blade to use when dealing with mats that are packed tight to the skin. Work of this nature must however be done slowly and with considerable care.

It will easily skim the coat from the under belly and topside inside of the back legs on any breed.

The size #15 blade is said to be one of the most versatile of dog blades, and is often a popular choice for many dog grooming contests.

Widely used in many of the various Poodle clips:-

Dutch clip: feet/face/eyes/side-stomach/tail.

Kennel & Lamb clips: face/feet/tail.

Puppy clip: face/feet/tail.

Royal Dutch clip: face/feet/tail and a wider strip down the side and possibly the back.

Summer clip: face/feet/tail

Town & Country clip: face/feet/tail/body pattern/

NB for Poodles with sensitive skins use a Oster #10 for the face.

The #15 blade is also used on the ears of the Airedale Terrier, face ears and part of the tail of the Bedlinton Terrier, the ears of the Cairn Terrier. For Cocker Spaniels it is used on the face, ears, throat and the head, the top of the ears of the Dandie Dinmont Terrier, the English Setter, Kerry Blue Terrier, and the ear tips of the West Highland White Terrier. In addition the blade is used on Irish Water Spaniels, Keeshond, Old English Sheep Dogs, Border Terriers and Yorkshire Terriers.

A wide range of attachment combs can be fitted over these blades to provide increased cutting length. Comb attachments should only be used on well-groomed coats and not those, which are tangled or matted.

Comb lengths shown should be added to the blade depth.

  • Comb No: 0 = 7/8th inches
  • Comb No: 1/2 =3/4th inch
  • Comb No: 1 = 5/8th inch.
  • Comb No: 1.5 = 1/2th inch
  • Comb No: 2 = 3/8th inch
  • Comb No: 3 = 3/8th inch
  • Comb No: 4 = 5/16th inch
  • Comb No: 5 - 32/16th inch

One should be mindful that when clipped this close some animals (horses especially) may "burn" if exposed to strong sunlight.

BLADE INFORMATION:

All whom clip should be aware that irrespective of either the type and make of machine used or the type of blades selected ALL blades can become blunt at a moment's notice. This is not normally connected with, nor a fault of, the clipping machine, but more likely one of several factors most common of which are (not in any order of priority!)

  1. In sufficient oiling by the operator
  2. Incorrect or bad sharpening
  3. Dirt and dust accumulated in the animals coat

ALWAYS HAVE A SPARE SET OF SHARPENED BLADES AVAILABLE BEFORE YOU START TO CLIP AN ANIMAL

Blade Storage:

When not in use, and having been thoroughly cleaned and oiled, the blades should be wrapped in a "grease" proof type paper and stored in a dry place preferably in your house. Any traces of rust will diminish the operational performance of the blades and may subsequently affect the clipping performance.

Do not leave in blades in tack rooms or stables. The same should apply to your clipper.
