An attractively marked body casing decorated with "paw" prints on a white polished background - the combination of colour and shape is immediately eye catching. Compact (under 6inches in length) with a tapered slim ergonomically curved body, the trimmer handles well especially in more confined area and offer fatigue free handling during use.

Whilst marketed as a "face, feet and pads trimmer" and aimed at the dog groomers market. we can visualise it being of valuable use to a wider market. With a blade face not exceeding 3 cm (One and three sixteenths of an inch) it becomes very much a "specialists" trimmer for professionals in the veterinary or laboratory practices. Ideal for intricate work on exhibition cattle, facial work on horses, and especially useful for use on some of the smaller domestic pets such as rabbits, ferrets, rats or mice.

Two exceptional features of this trimmer are the extremely low noise level and the lack of any vibration making it perfect for a wide range of tasks on an equally wide range of animals. This is the first machine we have been able to give the lowest noise rating of "1" to. Aesculap machine are increasingly noted for the absence of vibration and as such have to be a leading contender in animal clipping, especially where a nervous animal is involved.

Powered by a powerful motor this lightweight almost silent professional cordless trimmer offers an average of 40 minutes of operating time on a single charge. The re charge period is approx. 60 minutes. To maintain battery peak performance it is recommended that the battery should be drained periodically.

A "close" 0.20mm or 0.5mm - closer than the supplied 1.5mm blade would have increased its potential and been useful in a number of fields of operation. Replacing the blade head is quick and simple but do ensure you replace the Allen key in the slot provided in the base of the charger unit. Lose it and you will have problems!

The trimmer is powered by the NiMH type rechargeable battery. Briefly a nickel-metal hydride battery, (NiMH or Ni-MH) is a type of rechargeable battery that is very similar to the nickel cadmium (NiCd). It use positive electrodes of nickel oxyhydroxide (NiOOH), like the NiCd, but the negative electrodes use a hydrogen-absorbing alloy instead of cadmium. To maintain full charged capacity it is recommended you periodically drain the battery power and re-charge. Please read the manual - it covers this and other matters one should be aware of before ….. not after use!

On the Charger station a LED light indicates the charging status. On the underside is the Allen key for blade removal. Dependant on the degree of use in keeping with all trimmers that are powered by batteries, you will need to periodically to replace the battery. This should be done by an Authorised Service Centre. The trimmer is supplied with a small "slide on" attachment comb. This is of an unusual and innovative design in that it allows the same comb to be adjusted to a number of varying cutting depths. The comb is of a robust construction, not the normal cheaply made comb so often supplied with trimmers. The individual teeth are smoothly rounded for entry into tender areas.

This very much represents the quality one get with an Aesculap product!

On a critical note: Whilst having the highest praise for the engineering, technological design, and range of applications associated with the trimmer, it is extremely disappointing to see it is supplied to the UK with only an EU 2 pin plug. We understand steps are in hand to obtain an adapter with the UK 3 pin plug - meanwhile they are sold with a European plug fitted.

Adapters can be purchased from UK retail sources, but it is not sold with these and therefore customers will need to acquire the adapter for the UK power supply. (We can offer advice on the correct adapter to obtain.)

Aesculap whilst retailing in the higher price bracket, do offer products of an un-usually high specification, and are highly respected for their long established reputation in the cattle, horse, dog or veterinary world. Their clippers and trimmers incorporate the latest technology in both design and engineering to create not only some of the very best products available, but one's that have a proven test of unbeatable long levity.
A notable feature of almost all Aesculap clippers is the unique operation tone which others seem unable to copy. This - added to the powerful clipping performance, cool running, efficient and reliable cutting performance make them an automatic choice of the professional.


DOG GROOMERS:
The "Exacta" will appeal to many dog groomers despite their traditional use of the A5 type clippers due to the remarkable noise level, lack of vibration and ease of use in areas of confined space such as between pads of paws. This trimmer with the blade offering a 1.5mm cutting depth is highly suitable for clipping away matts - especially on the more nervous animal.

PET OWNERS - HOME CLIPPING:
For the Pet owner perhaps embarking on clipping for the first time the "Exacta" should be high on the list of suitable machines. Cordless has one distinct advantage over corded machine - no cable to worry about - complete freedom when clipping! Pets prone to matting required to have their Matts remove in the least painless manner possible. The narrow 24mm blade is far easier to use in confined areas. Let the trimmer do the work and ease it through the matt and you will be surprised at the efficient way it cut without causing the animal discomfort.

EQUINE OWNERS:
Many equine owners are involved in facial clipping and or clipping around or in ears. A trimmer which affords exceptionally low noise levels and an absence of vibration must be a perfect combination for situations where detailed work is required. Nervous horses are usually the result of being subjected to clipping or trimming without sensitivity or thought by the operator. A horses skull and facial bone area is a highly sensitive area. LONG HAIRED CAT:
Many long haired cats are highly prone to regular matting and require frequent attention if they are not too suffer. Whilst this can be done professionally in a grooming parlour many owners prefer to undertake the task themselves this reducing possible stress on the cat.
Few cats display any suggestion of liking or enjoying clipping, and many of the cheap clippers are positively unsuitable due to both noise and vibration. Cats by nature tend to be nervous of many routine husbandry tasks, possibility because unlike dog training very little other than litter training is conducted during the stage of kitten hood when the cat is more adaptable. A number of breeds of rabbits often required areas of fur clipped away for husbandry or sanitary purposes whether for exhibition or domestic pet purposes. Again as with cats this can become a routine requirement depending on the animal and its mode of housing, and also like the long haired cat breeds a number of rabbits may be prone to matts. - If what we are given to understand about recharge time is correct then this is far to long! Blade range bit limited against its main competitor.

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION:
"Ergonomically" designed (another way of saying interesting shape!) This is a smart, compact, well-balanced trimmer with "snap-on" detachable blades. Made in the Far East under the Lister label (we understand) it has a "specially engineered" permanent magnetic motor to create minimum noise and vibration, - the noise level is quite good, more a soft purr, and the vibration ratings are certainly good.

Not as light as The Wahl Pro Series Re-chargeable (a direct competitor) but it handles well. Already-tensioned detachable snap on blades avoid the fiddle of alignment and screw fixing. The use of plastic parts is said to keep the blades cool! Blade choice is rather limited when compared to the Wahl Pro-Series.

The ability to be able to switch to mains mode when the battery goes flat is a useful feature. The battery is said to be long lasting and can be re-charged many times. Written information on matters such as re-charge times is hard to find, but we are told by Lister UK that it is 8/9 hours with a clip time of 45 minutes - which if correct -is very disappointing to say the least!

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION :
Certainly not manufactured in Europe so possibly made in the Far East but nothing on the packaging confirms this. Distributed in the UK under the "Liveryman" brand, this is however a very innovative, very complete and highly price competitive dual cordless and corded trimmer with many features to commend it!

Normally we view clippers and trimmers made in the Far East - especially China with a high degree of caution mainly on the "quality" score factor, but also availability of parts - not at all easy to obtain in many cases! We do understand parts for this machine are readily available and we shall shortly include it in our parts section.

However on face value and without a huge degree of test history (which we will rectify as we approach the horse clipping season) one has to admit it would seem to represent excellent value as trimmers of this nature go!

The trimmer is compact, small, nice to hold and easy to use in the more difficult areas. It is delightfully light and the slightly curved shaped hand piece feels comfortable and light in the hand. The trimmer motor is fitted with 1000 hour life carbon brushes considered suitable for "heavy" duty use. One should however consider the term "Heavy duty" as befitting a clipper rather than a trimmer. We would not recommend this trimmer for any "heavy duty" work in the fuller sense of the term.

The trimmer's body casing is described as "break resistant" (We can't comment on this fact -as we have not yet tested it on a concrete floor!) The packaging claims it is designed to last for years - Well time will tell!

Described as low noise and low vibration with cool running blades, certainly the noise level is low, perhaps more an element of "barbers hum" typical of a traditional barber human clipper. Certainly not loud or likely to disturb all but the nerviest of animals. Vibration is virtually nonexistent. Cutting strokes are rated at 3000 to 3200 STM

Like several of the small trimmers you have the facility to use it in either mode -cordless, or by plugging the lead of the DC adapter plug into the rear of the trimmer - in mains mode. The lead is some 3m (10ft) in total length providing a decent length for general operational movement. The initial charge is 24 hours. Clip time in cordless mode is said to be 60 minutes, the recharge time 8 hours - which compared to some machines is "ages!"

The machine is supplied with a standard blade leaving a cutting depth of 1.5mm. The blade is fitted with a ceramic cutter which is titanium coated, and which it is claimed gives cool running, extra clip lasting time and provides extreme sharpness (Their description - not ours!) This is a detachable blade with a 46mm cutting face and as such requires no tensioning - this being done at factory level. The blade is easy to fit with the machine either switched off or in running mode.

Maintenance is stated as minimal other than the usual care after use - cleaning and of course regular lubrication of the blade when in operation. Reading the instruction leaflet is well worth your while - before you use the trimmer - as it contains some valuable advice regarding the storage of the machine when not in use from the battery aspect.

A lot is made of the charger unit's ability to "swivel" up to 180 and how it can turn the plug to the wall socket. Frankly how valuable a feature that is, is hard to evaluate! (Hardly a reason for purchasing!) Perhaps for some a feature of some importance, but we suspect of little consequence for many end users! The charger cradle - a compact dome shape is stable when holding the trimmer for charging purposes, and is fitted with four rubber pad to give a non slip effect when on a shiny or slippery surface. A CE rating is shown on the label underneath.

We liked the design of the attachment combs, of which two are supplied with the trimmer, these are innovative in that they are each two side thus offering two cutting depth - 3mm and 6mm and the second comb 9mm and 12mm They attach to the trimmer head clipping really tightly into two countersunk sockets and give a solid feel when in use. Easily inter-changed - useful to have a two in one comb.

As attachment combs go - quiet the best we have seen!

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION :
An attractive coloured and rather smart, ergonomic shaped pet trimmer which fits the hand nicely and has good choice of detachable type blades available. It is suitable for domestic pet users with breeds that may be do not require the more traditional clips necessitating A5 type detachable blades, and for equine owners seeking a trimmer for facial work, possible hogging and leg feather trimming - dependant on the blades used and the texture of the animal's coat.

Domestic pet owners will find the cordless mode an attractive feature especially with a clip time said to be 2.5 hours when full charged - the re-charge time is two and a half hours. Long lasting Lithium polymer battery is fitted. Powered by brushless motor with a life time of 10,000 hours, it generates 4500 double cutting strokes per minute at a noise level by our scale of "2." We suspect a degree of minor vibration might be felt by the more nervous animal. Whilst slight - it is not envisaged as a major problem, but should be mentioned if you are intending purchasing for use on a really nervous animal, such as a cat or horse.

The blades are the "detachable" all one piece type with a blade face width averaging 46mm. Blades are NOT intended to be taken apart - DO NOT attempt to unscrew - special tools are needed! They "snap" back on the clipper head with a "V" shaped metal "hook" which should be positioned into an opening the plastic head housing. (Worth familiarising oneself with, and attempting a few times before removing or replacing a blade! The blades on the production machine we tested were tight and took some pressure to remove - this may well be a "newness" factor and will ease with use. Could however be "off putting!" to many as one could be uncertain of how much thumb pressure is needed!

Due to the style of the crank drive lever the blades can normally be put on with the motor in the off position. (We did however find it easier replacing a blade with the motor running!)Blades can be re-sharpened many times

As with the "detachable" type blade there is therefore no tensioning involved. Blades should be removed by "easing" off the clipper head with your fingers. (Pulling back from the clipper head) This is different to the traditional A5 type "detachable" blade where there is a hinge assembly, and the blade sits on a protruding "tongue". Such blades are normally released by the pressing of a "release" button/lever immediately below the blade..

The instruction manual, (leaflet) is worth reading in full before you start any actual clipping! It contains valuable information regarding attaching blades, operating instructions including oiling blades when in use - regular applications of oil are important to keep the blades cool. The motor is said to require no maintenance with a service life of approximately 1000 hours of correct use. Adverse effects to the unit are basically "common sense" but ALL manuals are worth reading .............BEFORE you start to use the machine!

Oiling every few minutes is important - it is the only form of lubrication blades get and prevents then overheating when in use. Oiling blades should therefore become a discipline one adheres to - as is the case with most clippers. On the subject of oiling - you will be wise to purchase additional oil as the amount supplied is a fraction of what you will need and use!

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION:
When we first saw this little compact trimmer lurking about on a shelf in an office at Wahl UK - a good few years ago now - we immediately recognised its potential. How it has proved us right over the years! A highly versatile gem!

Used either in cordless or mains powered mode it has established a role for itself in almost every clipping field, finding favour with cattle folk (beef or dairy) horse owners, hundreds of vets, and pet owners. Very hard to fault this trimmer - it really is super!

Like any mass-produced product, and there are literally thousands sold to happy customers, it has had the odd problem from time to time but in the main it has remained trouble free. (One weak spot proved to be in the cable at the trimmer end where the cord enters if used excessively in mains mode.) Batteries, which can be re-placed, seem to last between 5/7 years with average use. If you run out of battery power you just plug in the charger adapter and carry on clipping! Fast re-charge well within the hour!

Its great strengths are versatility, comfortable to use, mobility, useable in both power modes (cordless or mains) Detachable type blades supported with a good blade range for a machine of its size, plus great value - especially with two blades!
