We have tried to create a list of the "Top Ten" clippers and trimmers drawn from an extensive range of over 100 hundred various mains powered and cordless machines we have experience of.
This is an honest and unbiased attempt to put together a list of both clippers and trimmers which from a practical evaluation over a period of time have been seen to be proven and "fit for the purpose of their intended used" Factors taken into account are the experience and comments of many hundred of uses representing a wide field of uses.
We also take into consideration the repair history balanced again bad or in different use and lack of maintenance. Customer lack of knowledge and professionalism is equally represented and balanced in the overall selection.
The comments are of course purely the opinions of Peasridge - many will very likely disagree!
They are not listed in any order of merit - purely in alphabetical order for convenience.
The selected machines have in no way been influenced by the manufacturers, sales margins or marketing influences - they are drawn from a vast wealth of practical "hands on" use by hundreds of customers on a wide range of animal breeds, as well as from our own independent tests -

AESCULAP "EQUIP"

A heavy duty horse clipper of outstanding German engineering! Probably one of the best since the renowned "Aesculap SE" model. Essentially designed for the professional, although many one horse owners are attracted to buying it.
Its power and soft motor tone makes it a natural for use those more nervous horses. Its reliability give confidence to the user - hence it popularity with those who clip for a living!

DOUBLE K 401 POWER CLIPPER

A professional flexi drive shaft driven powerful clipper designed for both horses and or dogs.

HEINIGER "HANDY"

Been around a few years and stood the test of time! Heiniger are known worldwide for both their shearing expertise and their equine involvement. The "Handy" must rank as one of their best light duty horse clippers.
The "Handy" personally build a lot of the Heiniger Equine reputation - solid and reliable - probably the most powerful of the light duty clippers of its time, there are few stable yards in the UK where a "Handy" has not clipped!

Impeccable pedigree built from the long standing reputation of the "Showman" this is British made machine from that long established company know to practically every horse owner world wide - Lister!

MOSER "AVALON"

Another almost cordless clipper - attached to a lightweight battery by a retractable cable! German made - a quite brilliant clipper when you consider the size (around 7-inches) and it vast capabilities!
Take a nervous horse or unpredictable Alpaca; take a Moser "Avalon" with a Moser wide #10 - 2.3mm blade and start clipping! Unbelievable just what this clipper can do! Great advantage with the Moser "Avalon" - detachable blades - no tensioning! A mains version - the "Artiko" exists for those who prefer a cord.

Whether you are a vet, horse owner, or cattle exhibitor, this trimmer whilst being cheap and cheerful has a lot of merit to warrant recommending it to those who want a versatile economy trimmer which can be used in either cordless or mains mode.
As a mass produced product it's not infallible, known for a few minor problems over the many years it has been available, but still very capable and certainly versatile. Supplied currently with two blades - standard and fine, it represents good value!
Batteries (two) can be replaces, most with correct use and maintenance last a good many years even with frequent re-charging. Small, compact, light and nice to work with!
Lastly, we have added two relatively new models both launched in 2009 and both by the very nature of their excellence quality and outstanding field trials demand to be included in this list.
We have had much to do with the testing of both and can vouch for their exceptional qualities which is the sole reason they are included!
