FIGURE 1: Internal head section Clipmaster head with blades removed .
A Yoke assembly with two pointed "cones" on which the cutter blade is seated. B Drive block. This should be seated within the yoke assembly to work. C Oscillating springs - consisting of three "leaves" each side of the yoke assembly. D Rubber band - secures yoke assembly over the drive block when blades not fitted. E Lower blade screws. Used a "wide" blade type screwdriver to undo/tighten. F Screws for securing yoke assembly.
FIGURE 2: Protecting the drive block against loss
Once the cutter and comb blades have been removed from the clipper head, the yoke assembley will drop down when the clipper is held in the normal upright position. As a result the drive block can easily be lost, often without the user realising! Should this occur, the clipper blades will not work.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should the machine be switched on - as use without a drive block may result in serious damages to the head and or the body mechanism.
A replacement drive block MUST be fitted before the machine can be used again.
In order to prevent the yoke assembly dropping down and accidental loss of the drive block, a simple remedy is to secure the yoke assembly over the drive block with a rubber band until such time as you refit the blades.
FIGURE 3: Over tensioning blades
Over tensioning of the blades should be avoided as this can lead to the "pressure plate" located inside the tension plate assembly) either breaking or being damages - in which case you will not be able to tension the blades. In this event the whole tension plate assembly (104460-005-000) has to be replaced as the pressure plate is an integeral part. (The tension nut on the top of the clipper head - See item 18 on the parts diagram - head above
Over tensioning or running the machine without blades can also lead to the stripping of the gear wheel cog teeth (044910-000-000) To check or replace the crankshaft gear you need to detach the clipper head from the body, unscrew and removed the cover plate - (See item 2 on the parts diagram - head.)
NB. This information applies to all three models of the Stewart Oster Clipmaster as well as certain AESCULAP, HEINIGER and LISCOP/LIVERYMAN horse/cattle clippers which have the same or similar head mechanism. Therefore the same comments may be considered to apply.
