Close blade

Principally a blade for large dog breeds rather than equine user, and at 1.5mm close it may be considered by many as too close for full body clipping purposes. If you do however want to clip close then it is one of the few blades available in the "wide" selection at this cutting depth.
On certain horse breeds it could be considered suitable for hogging and leg clipping.
However with the now long established "full clip" horse detachable A5 type Moser 2.3mm blade and more recent Aesculap 2.4mm detachable wide blade, both of which have established themselves as the "detachable" blades for clipping horses, Oster wide blades for the Equine user have lost some of their following.
Cattle exhibitors with traditional black and white dairy breeds would find favour with a blade of this closeness, and certainly a number of cattle show persons use it widely in the USA for full body show preparation.
Beef cattle exhibitors tend to favour the other two Groom Master blades below (Groom Master medium and coarse) both leaving a longer amount of hair.
On many dog breeds where 1.5mm clipped length is acceptable this blade is ideal for the show clip. In the grooming parlour, again the blade is popular with many groomers for the larger dog breeds, providing the amount of hair left is satisfactory.
Due to the greater number of teeth on both the cutter and comb, compared to the two "Groom Master" blades in theory it should be a good blade to use when confronted with the more "dense" type coats of both dog breeds, and areas where it can be used on horses.
Attachment combs cannot be fitted to this #10 wide blade to give extra cutting depth.

Medium blade

The "Groom Master" blade range embraces two blades - medium and coarse. Other than the cutting depth (see above) both are identical as far as the number of teeth on either blades are concerned. They are designed for the cutting of matted and heavy coats of the larger dog breeds.
However with the introduction of the detachable blade clippers back in the early nineteen nineties these blade where quickly adopted for use in trimming out show cattle especially those exhibited in the late autumn/Christmas Fatstock classes.
The medium blade is smooth toothed with a bevel and produces a medium clip with easier feeding of the coat into the teeth on matted animals or for use on larger breeds with subsequently thicker and heavier coats. Could well suit horse owners seek a very slightly extra depth of coat or less close cut on legs.
However probably not a blade likely to suit many legs with dense hair/feathers. Usually in such cases one is often better to resort to a blade with many more teeth such as a "surgical" #40 blade fitted with an attachment comb to give the desired height.
Attachment combs cannot be fitted to this style blade to give extra cutting depth.
