+ GERMAN! - Can one say more? Exceptional quality - built to last!

- Tied exclusively to its own blades. Expensive? Yes! Such is the price of quality!

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION:
One of the top professional dog clippers- German made and designed to give years of service, which has the potential to be used for nervous horse if fitted with the correct blade!

The cheaper economy type dog clippers are fine! Thousands of people use them, many hundreds are repaired every year, not always the fault of the clippers, end-users contribute to many unnecessary repairs, but equally - many are repaired due to quality faults!

The Aesculap Favorita II is probably the only professional dog-grooming clipper still manufactured to a standard in which quality, reliability and long levity are the prime concerns.
It is not a cheap purchase and a major disadvantage must be the fact that once equipped with an Aesculap Fav II model you are then tied to the Aesculap Favorita blade range for it will take no other blades unlike its sister clipper the new Aesculap FAV5: which is equipped to take all makes of the popular "detachable" type narrow and wide blades.

That aside when dealing with nervous horses of the type requiring sedation this is a machine that may possibly allow you to clip - even in some cases without resorting to sedation. We have had some truly astounding results with both the Aesculap Favorita II and the Aesculap FAV5: and can cite many cases of horses once unable to be clipped now being normally clipped without any trace of problems. - such is the quality of Aesculap engineering!

Aesculap are part of the of the German company - B Braun GmbH - a multinational company internationally famous for decades, for its pioneering and leading involvement in both veterinary and human medical equipment. Today recognised as the specialists in their field, the design, engineering and finished quality of all their products is typically German and virtually unbeatable!

Aesculap have never been cheap! An Aesculap product will always costs more than a more cheaply made item, but often buying the best quality and paying a little extra, reaps lasting dividends in the long run! A lesson so often learnt the hard way!

Designed over a decade ago, it is today still unmatched. The innovative design and attractive style of the slim shaped handpiece, incorporates a combination of balance and lightness, to ensure the operator precision clipping to the highest standards. We particularly like the side positioned "on-off" switch designed and positioned for easy and safe operation.

Some observers may comment on the lower cutting stroke ratio in comparison to other machines and may question the power output of the Favorita II. However it is really a matter of motor torque produced and the corresponding power thus generated by the motor.

This is what drives the blades and they if correctly designed, manufactured, and suitably selected for the task in hand they will perform the actual cutting to satisfaction!

The Aesculap German made motors are more than equal to any of the many other machines available and often superior in torque values, with the lower cutting speed offering a much smoother vibration free running, far quieter noise level, and definitely far longer life expectancy than higher cutting stroke producing motors.

High cutting strokes whilst seemingly attractive can and often do cause various problems with both clipper heads and blades, and frequently lead to a number of performance related problems. Often a higher degree of routine maintenance is required.

A number of features lift this machine into a superior category, including the ball bearing universal motor, which provides great durability and long life, with almost total vibration free running. The ventilation system eliminates aspects of overheating, ensuring suitability for prolonged use. The air filter can be easily cleaned and the motor is encased in an unbreakable casing.

The Aesculap Favorita II is also an excellent choice beyond the realms of just clipping nervous horses, it is of course a long standing dog clipper used worldwide by groomers, and it can, and is, widely used for clipping Angora Goats and many breeds of Rabbits. The GT746 blade is recommended for use on both goats and rabbits. Fitted with an Aesculap GT749 wide blade it has the potential to clip any nervous horse!

PLEASE NOTE:
This Aesculap Favourita II clipper unlike the model above is supplied WITHOUT a blade for those customers who prefer to select a blade for their particular needs or who already have blades and are replacing an existing machine.

IMPORTANT! - CLIPPER VOLTAGE RATING -
The electrical machines we offer for sale are principally for use with the electrical supply system operation in the UK namely 240volt. This machine is there equipped with a suitable voltage motor and component parts and will have a supporting identification plate on the casing. In addition to working on the UK electrical system it can normally be used on any European 220/240 volt system.

However it is supplied with a UK 3-pin plug and therefore will need an appropriate "adaptor" plug into which the UK 3-pin will fit. Whilst these are not readily available to us they can be usually easily obtained at your local electrical outlet.

Customers outside of the UK and European Countries should check their electrical supply rating and seek professional advice from a qualified electrician.

USA Customers should note that with a national 110-volt electrical supply system 240-volt products will need specialist converter equipment and may still not work. It is recommended that you seek professional advice from a qualified electrician before making a purchase.

+ GERMAN! - Can one say more? Ultimate engineering and quality - built to last! Pure BMW!

- Expensive? Unashamedly - Yes! Pure quality has a price!

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION:

From AESCULAP of GERMANY - "One of the World's finest engineered A5 detachable blade using dog clippers made!"

With over two decades of manufacturing the Favorita II - probably the best dog clipper made with a long and proven history of reliability - now Aesculap have stormed the dog grooming world - lifting manufacturing standards to a new level with the introduction of their FAV5 - their first ever detachable A5 blade using clipper!

The FAV5 is a powerful machine with a smooth running and sounding motor which apart from being typically Aesculap in tone - it inspires confidence in its ability to generate power for professional use. Now with the power and expertise of Aesculap engineering you can also fit not only your existing detachable A5 blades - whether Oster, Andis, Laube, Thrive or Wahl, but Aesculap have also created a full range of Aesculap high quality German detachable A5 which closely mirror the sizes of Oster other similar makes of A5 blades.

German made product have a long history of being engineered to perfection, and as one would expect from one of the top German veterinary manufacturer, the Aesculap FAV5 inherits the same reputation for reliability - especially important for any professional dog parlour clipper where reliability is the keyword .

Peasridge was one of the few privileged to conduct intensive practical field trials in a number of professional grooming parlours and can say with complete confidence that the FAV5 fully lived up to the very high standards of performance we have come to expect from Aesculap over many years.

A number of engineering features lift this machine into a superior category including placing it ahead of various competitors :

A ball bearing universal motor provides great durability

A smooth low noise level motor tone - the hallmark of Aesculap quality!

The expectancy of a long working life of reliability

A smooth running motor with low cutting stroke ratio generating virtually a total absence of vibration.

A ventilation system eliminating overheating in prolonged use.

Easily cleaned air filter

The motor and component parts in an unbreakable body casing

Made in Germany, by skilled German engineers

One year manufacturer's warranty.

Manufactured to a standard rarely seen these days.

DOG GROOMERS:
Introducing the FAV5 to your busy grooming business and assures you of reliability, with long levity of product and the ability to be able to use any of your favourite A5 type detachable blades, whether Andis, Laube, Moser, Oster, Thrive or Wahl, thus saving considerable expenditure in additional blade purchase. Plus you can relax in the confidence of Aesculap after sales support - considered second to none!

For the average dog grooming parlour a heavy investment in blades will always have a consideration on the make and model of clipper used when replacement is being considered. With the Aesculap FAV5 you can be assured all your favourite detachable A5 blades will fit and can be used as you desire.

Yes - the retail price is considerably higher than other more economy machines. Aesculap make no apology for producing high quality product without compromise! A superior product usually works out much cheaper in maintenance over the many years of service it gives.

Whilst many dog groomers may feel the purchase price is considerably higher than they wish to necessarily invest, consider the more regular repair and maintenance bills of the more economy priced machines and the financial effect of a robust business being inconvenienced with mechanical breakdowns.

.
EQUINE OWNERS:

Whilst projected at the dog grooming market, for the equine owner with a clipper shy horse the FAV5 must surely be the answer to your clipping nightmare! At lasts a professional and powerful small clipper with a level of working noise that most horses will not freak over.

On all our extensive pre production tests on nervous horses whether hairy cobs or natives we found the smooth and soft noise of the clipper blades when operating plus the lack of any vibration made for a more contented horse and a stress freer operator. It is important the operator acquires knowledge of the various detachable wide blades which are suitable for the task in hand. Seek advice - blade knowledge is important!

Early tests suggested that fitted with the correct blade this clipper had the potential to be perfect for use with the "nervous" horse. Results were quiet literally "staggering!"

Later when the FAV 5 was in production, to avoid customers committing to purchase before they knew with certainty we have frequently loan FAV5 models to nervous horse owners all over Europe and those who primarily had horses which could not be clipped without sedation.

Whilst we had great expectation of this clipper during pre production trials even our most ambitious expectations have been surpassed by its practical achievements obtained by horse owners and end users not normally familiar with this type of machine and with horse whom normally require sedation before any attempt to clip can be contemplated!

Selection of the right blade clearly is a contributing factor in the clipping, but before that can be achieved one has to convince the horse of the machine and allay any fears - clearly the smooth tone and the absence of vibration are major factors!

To date the success rate is 100% clearly there has to be horses for which this will prove unsuitable either as a machine or the ability of the available blades - meanwhile it has to be one of the most serious contenders to achieve success!

On ALL occasions the feedback was positive! Many who loaned initially to test, subsequently purchased solely because now for the first time they could clip their horse and in many cases sedation was not required! These results bordered on the "unbelievable!"

We certainly believe this clipper could one day be the fore-runner of the clipper of the future! Not only its acceptance by nervous horses, but the size and overall weight is perfect for what is surly an hour plus of clipping. If that was not enough one last and huge advantage for the horse owner who maybe clips a few times a year - detachable blades - not more tensioning which can be such a "headache" for some.

Whilst probably is a decade or more away- it would be ..........one huge step for the equine owner!

Meanwhile for those who struggle to clip their horses its merits are awesome! That said you do need to select the right blades! So consult us before you contemplate purchasing!

Our own field trials suggest convincingly that both the Moser 2.3mm standard #10 wide and the Aesculap 2.4mm standard full wide #10 blade are the blades best suited to equine full body clipping, whist other may give a result these two blades have proved to date highly successful.

It is worth mentioning that the mode or manner in which the operator uses the machine - is - crucial to the quality of the performance and clip. This is especially true when confronted with a dense coated cob or native breed. It is "essential" the operator takes a "relaxed" approach to the clipping task, does not rush the clipping and at all times allows the machine to glide through the coat, rather than attempting to push the clipper. This must be emphasised at the start!

Other factors such as individual length of cut is crucial - short lengths produce far better results than clipping in long "lawn mower" stripes. Criss cross clipping action in confined areas rather than open up extensive areas give a more professional finish. At all times the blade face must be flat to the animal's body surface.

VETERINARIANS

For the laboratory or veterinarian - where reliability and continuous use is of paramount importance - a machine of this calibre will easily undertake large or small animal work whether in a university laboratory or busy surgery!

LONG HAIRED CAT & RABBIT OWNERS:
Our extensive test convince us it is ideal for clipping any long hair nervous cat breeds due to its ultra low noise tone, as well as the absence of vibration. In addition to long haired cats it is perfect for use on the many breeds of both long and short haired rabbits.

ANGORA GOAT SMALL FLOCK OWNERS:
Light and compact it is perfect for removing the valued coat product of the Angora whether goat or rabbit. With a wide range of A5 detachable blades that can be selected for whatever the task confronting you, you will have no problem in seeking a solution.

ALPACCA SMALL STUD OWNERS:
Many small studs of alpacas are successfully clipped or shorn annually with small detachable A5 blade clippers. The smooth low tone notes of the FAV5 are beneficial to the operator and perfect for your animals in ensuring that minimum stress is created.

As with equine full body clipping, so with the Alpaca, the correct blade selection is crucial and again both the Moser 2.3mm standard #10 wide and the Aesculap 2.4mm standard full wide #10 blade are in our opinion by far the best blades suited for quality clipping performance of a high value fleece.

+ Well-engineered, quality product. Delightfully slim handgrip with very comfortable feel. Low noise level, powerful new permanent magnet motor.

- Disappointing and rather cumbersome clipper head which slightly unbalances the slim and attractive body features of what looks and feels a very attractive clipper.

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION:
The first thing to strike one is the ultra slim hand piece - it really is slim and comfortable to hold! This will be very popular with many horse owners! The body, glass fibre reinforced synthetic polyamide, has an attractive feel and looks smart in dual colours of black and charcoal. The slightly off-putting factor is the head - rather cumbersome looking and with a suggestion of being heavy, it gives the impression of being unbalanced.

That apart this machine has all the hallmarks of a precision made Swiss clipper engineered to a very high standard. The inside of the head has the usual Heiniger features - the patent drive carrier system as used in other Heiniger models. The powerful permanent magnetic motor with a 65-watt output, torque comparable with a universal motor of 150watts produces a cutting speed of 2150 spm when under load.

The motor has a very favourable low noise level, which is helped by the lower rpms and improved torque. Increased safety factors include electronic circuit with overload switch and all control element coloured "red" The overload switch is hidden away behind the removable air filter. The ability to be able to use Aesculap, Stewart-Oster, DeLaval and Supershear blades extends widely the clipping capabilities of this quality product.

+ Ideal machine for those seeking a light duty horse clipper at the top of the wattage range. Long-standing favourite of many horse owners. The most powerful of the light duty range

- Ease of use of the On/Off switch. Handpiece girth a little broad and the two carbon brush caps stick out which is slightly annoying when you hold the machine!

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION:
A precision made Swiss machine engineered to a very high standard. A compact and reasonably comfortable handpiece, (the two carbon brush caps are annoying as they protrude out from the casing, thus hitting one's fourth index finger. - small point but aggravating! The powerful 120-watt motor producing a cutting speed of 3200 rpm, which is fan cooled, puts the clipper at the top of the range of the light duty machines.

Thoroughly reliable machine with very few back due to faults! Past service history confirms it is another very reliable Heiniger product. Enjoys a superior blade range compared to any other clipper in its class which puts it way beyond the "competition"

One point worth mentioning for both existing and future user - too many operators run the machine without correctly fitting and tensioning the blades with the result that the blades fly off and the machine is run without blades fitted. The result is often damage to the head and the mechanism, which drive the blades. This is very definitely end user abuse and not a fault of the clipper, so if you are in any doubt about correctly setting up the blades on a clipper get professional advice! This applies to other makes as well and not solely Heiniger.

The head mechanism is of superior quality design and engineering as found in the top German machines, using a cutter drive carrier mounted with laminated springs. The smooth running motor emits a low noise level making it a popular choice for those with nervous horses. Features such as easy maintenance, and the ability to be able to use both the Aesculap, Stewart-Oster, DeLaval and Supershear full blade range extends widely the clipping capabilities of this quality product.

+ A smooth running machine attractive horse clipper, with reliable service history and innovative design features!

- Nice machine very well made but incorporating a "cumbersome" looking clipper head.

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION:
A well-engineered German made compact machine giving reliable performance and good quality clip, ideal as a light duty clipper for many horse owners.
An attractive machine rather spoilt, in our opinion, by a clipper head, which is best described as being more like a sheep head as on a shearing machine. We feel this gives the impression of being bulky and not of "easy handling!" From an engineering point it may well have good merits, but from the end users point it appears unnecessarily bulky and weight. Unfortunately may put potential horse clipper seeking customer off purchasing. In actual fact if you forget all about the shape of the head it is a really good sound buy.

At 2100 double cutting strokes per minute the motor emits a smooth note at a reasonable noise level whilst giving optimal cutting power. Fitted with a light aluminium head housing. All moving parts in the gearbox are self-lubricating and it is fitted with the new "whispering" oscillating cutter drive system.

The on/off switch was located in an in-accessible position for operator's safety in an emergency situation on the model we reviewed.

IMPORTANT - Please note:
The electrical machines we offer for sale are principally for use with the electrical supply system operation in the UK namely 240volt.

This machine is there equipped with a 240 motor and component parts and will have a supporting identification plate on the casing. In addition to working on the UK electrical system it can be used on any European 220/240 volt system.

However it is supplied with a UK 3-pin plug and therefore will need an appropriate "adaptor" plug into which the UK 3-pin will fit. Whilst these are not readily available to us they can be easily obtained at your local electrical outlet.

Customers out side of the UK and European Countries should check their electrical supply rating and seek professional advice from a qualified electrician.

USA Customers should note that with a national 110-volt electrical supply system 240-volt products will need specialist converter equipment and may still not work. It is recommended that you seek professional advice from a qualified electrician before making a purchase.

+ A smooth running and attractive light duty horse clipper from a manufacturer with a history for reliable engineering and innovative design features!

- Whilst in many respects a well manufactured machine there are several aspects of the design we find disappointing.

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION :
We were extremely surprised and disappointed to not have been provided with a production model for a physical and practical test.

Our normal practice is to apply a machine to a full body clipping test on an actual horse - in this case a grey cob - that both has a thick and testing coat, really good hairy legs and a nervous tendency toward most clippers. However the manufacturer's UK distributor, for reasons best known to themselves, were unable to offer us a production model upon which they would give their consent for a practical test!

Therefore we are unable to provide Internet viewers with any reliable practical test information, and so we do not feel we can in any way mislead viewers or possible buyers with any form of Peasridge recommendation nor do we feel able to apply a Peasridge "Star" rating on a product which we have not for whatever reason, been allowed to test in our normal fashion.

As the vast majority of the world's clipper manufacturers are extremely keen to ensure Peasridge readily has production models to test, bearing in mind the wide exposure our website with over half a million viewers per month visiting the site via the Internet - we find the reluctance in this case………"somewhat strange!"

A visual inspection was therefore all we could carry out - and the following comments are offered for your guidance.

The machine displays the usual German high quality of engineering technology associated with Liscop machines, and has a number of innovative features including a permanent magnet motor with a high torque, lightweight aluminium alloy head housing, a self lubricating drive system, well designed aeration system for both the motor and clipping head (which benefits the blades of course) plus maintaining the "Oscillating" cutter yoke system which contributes to successfully eliminating vibration!

The ergonomically designed hand piece and especially the slim hand grip is featured strongly in the clipper publicity!

However there are a number of aspects we do not find that accommodating in a real life situation clipping horses especially - these are...............

The hand grip! Yes slim and shaped for the smaller hand - however we felt the shortness of the actual slim part of the hand grip was less than accommodating to anyone with a medium or larger sized hand, and your operating hand was "pushed" on to the bulkier part of the handpiece in order to be comfortable. Now different people may experience different effect s - but before you rush out to purchase - we do recommend a few minutes is spent trying one for yourself and seeing if it suits you - not in the first few minutes, but imaging holding and using it for an hour or more!"

The Clipper head follows the pattern and shape of certain previous models - we frankly find the head design strangely cumbersome and ungainly for a horse/cattle machine - it bears more the resemblance of a sheep shearing machine head! You may find it ungainly if you have been using a more convention and slimmer head style.

The noise level is moderate at a level count of 3 indicating a smooth running average tone, but it has to be added that the motor of the machine we inspected whilst highly smooth did emitted a rather high pitched tone which some animals may fine disturbing. Even with tension adjustment and frequent oiling the tone persisted.

A break with the conventional method of securing the blades to the clipper head has been made by Liscop. Normal screwdriver tightened blade screws are replace with "Allen key" locking nuts. One the face of it there are perhaps merits for adopting such a system, however we have to consider the practical application - if lost a 4mm Allen key may prove a lot more difficult to find in a stable yard compared to an ordinary every day screwdriver! Wise perhaps to carry a spare!

Lastly - possibly a minor point - the cable! From clipper to plug a total of 3.45m - a touch mean when compared to most other makes averaging 5m. That extra meter could be useful in the average yard.

+ An attractive light duty horse clipper from a manufacturer with a history for reliable engineering and innovative design features!

- Like certain other machines from this much respect manufacturer, whilst all unquestionably well engineered, we find there are several practical aspects we consider disappointing.

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION:
We have to report we were extremely disappointed to not have been provided with a production model for a physical and practical test.

Our normal practice is to apply a test to every machine given to us using a horse with both a thick and testing coat and with a nervous tendency toward clippers. However the manufacturer's UK distributor for reasons best known to themselves were unable to offer us a production model which they would allow to be used for a practical test!

Hence we are unable to provide our many hundreds of thousands of Internet viewers with any reliable practical test information. This being the case we do not consider we are in a position to therefore apply any Peasridge "star" rating nor do we feel we can mislead Internet viewers and /or possible buyers with a any form of a Peasridge recommendation on a product which we have not for whatever reason been allow to conduct a reasonable practical test in our normal fashion.

We would add that the majority of clipper manufacturers are extremely keen to ensure Peasridge has a production model of their machines to test in view of the wide exposure our website had with over half a million viewers per month visiting the site via the Internet - hence we find the reluctance in this case………"very strange!"

A visual inspection was therefore all that could be carried out - and the following comments are offered for your guidance.

This machine as with others in the range displays the usual German high quality of engineering technology associated with Liscop machines, along with a number of innovative features including a permanent magnet motor producing high torque output, lightweight aluminium alloy head housing, a self lubricating drive system, well designed aeration system for both the motor and clipping head (which benefits the blades of course) plus maintaining the "Oscillating" cutter yoke system which contributes to successfully eliminating vibration! The ergonomically designed hand piece - especially the slim hand grip is featured strongly in the clipper publicity!

However there are a number of aspects we do not find that accommodating in a real life situation clipping horse especially - these are...............

The hand grip is slim and certainly shaped for the hand to hold - however anybody other than with a small hand will experience the shortness of the hand grip before you encountered the black rather larger "collar" of the clipper head was found restrictive if not "uncomfortable" Again our advice, as with the "Liscop Cutli" would be before you purchase one do take the trouble to handle the "Starlet" and above all imaging it in your hand for a least an hour or more!

Another point on the question of manoeuvrability, the clipper head follows the pattern and shape of certain previous models - we find the head design strangely cumbersome and ungainly for a horse or cattle machine - it bears more the resemblance of a sheep shearing machine head! Some operators may find it very slightly ungainly if you have been using a more convention slimmer head style.

The "Starlet" brochure uses the term "extremely silent" when referring to the running noise level of the clipper. This to many readers, not unreasonably, may indicate a machine of an almost silent operating level! Some owners with nervous horses may be tempted to consider it as the perfect machine for such animals having read the term "extremely silent"

In our very considerable experience of many makes of both light and heavy duty clipping machines and being also fully aware of attempting to use a less than "extremely" quiet machine on a nervous animal - this is not a acurate descriptive term we would have used for this model!

The noise level is "moderate" at best and at a level count of 3 indicates a smooth running semi low tone, to which we feel bound to add that the motor of the machine we inspected whilst sounding smooth did emitted a fairly high toned pitched which some animals may find disturbing. Also we are aware that some machines with age do become more noisy - of course this may not be the case with the "Starlet." Even with tension adjustment and frequent oiling this "tone|" persisted. We would therefore take issue with the term "extremely silent" preferring the words "moderately silent" as more correct description!

A break with the traditional method of securing the blades to the clipper head has been instigated by Liscop. Normal screwdriver tightened blade screws which are the norm with most manufacturer's are replace now with "Allen key" locking nuts. On the face of it there are perhaps excellent merits, however we have to consider the more mundane and practical applications - if lost a 4mm Allen key may prove a lot more difficult to find in a stable yard or even in your home tool kit compared to an ordinary every day screwdriver!

Could be a wise move to carry a spare - just in case!

+ Welcome size, very compact, well engineered.

- Disappointing noise level.

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION :
Whilst we were critical of the Lister "Neon" for its weak head design, plus we felt, a rather cheap feeling plastic body casing, Lister can be congratulate on their efforts to rectify these criticisms and the creation of the greatly improve the "Star" which has emerged with a number of design improvements, including the way the clipper head now attaches to the main body - retained with a U-shaped clip which greatly improves the strength of the head to body connection, and we are advised Lister's rarely see any returns where this improved design feature has failed.
The body casing too has been improved and is made from a robust grade of plastic resulting in a casing with a far nicer feel, and moulded finger grips for increased hold. The Star has an extra screw (just forwards of the air-filter) which greatly improves the rigidity of the handpiece. The Star now has that "quality" look and feel that Lister is more normally associated with!

The Lister "Star" is fitted with a permanent-magnet type motor, and on a physical test it gave an impressive performance for its size and wattage rating. However we would feel that is not a reason to abuse it and therefore an appreciation of lower wattage will increase the number of years of use!

With many horse owners, now resorting to undertaking their own clipping, the need for a small clipper of exactly this nature, will add to the attraction of many lady horse owners and especially teenage girls maybe under taking clipping for the first time. With so many rather heavy and often cumbersome machines on offer it is good to find a small and light machine which is not "re-packaged" from the dog clipping world, but is in the true sense a livestock or horse "clipper"

Apart from the obvious horse owners the "Star" may hold attractions for a number of the small cattle exhibitors seeking a lightweight machine for preparing show cattle clipping.

The noise level when operated with blades running is one area we do find ourselves still slightly critical of. With so many horses of a nervous disposition low noise levels are a valuable feature, if not almost an essential asset to any clipping machine. Having often witnessed the reactions of nervous horses to the more "noisy" machines available one can only sympathise with persons engaged in clipping a horse that fears the clipper.

The air filter situated at the rear of the clipper, needs as the manual stresses to be regularly checked for hair blockage and cleaned thoroughly on both sides. On test we found our production model soon attracted a generous coating of hair, and whilst this is common with many machines - it is a point to be aware of - this is the "breathing" in flow of fresh air - important to the cool running of the machine. The spare air filter supplied with a new machine is a sensible precaution against possible loss. Do not operate the machine without an air filter!

Easy and low routine maintenance are features of the "Star" including replaceable blade comb pegs. Motors and drive gears can be expected to give years of trouble free service if the machine is maintained and serviced regularly, Gearwheels do require clearing and re- greasing after every 200 hours of operational use. Keeping air filters clean is also a necessity to maintaining peak performance.

Undoubtedly this machine will prove a popular clipper in the Lister range, the compact size and general lightness is bound to be highly popular with many horse owners. Lister has a long history of providing the consumer with easily tensioned machines, an area which can cause untold frustration for many. Lister blade cope well with many types of coat texture and often seem to outperform several other makes, the A2/AC medium being the most popular choice for many horses or to a lesser extent the A2F/AC - fine blade.

Finally the machine is supplied in a good solid plastic case with excellent compartments for keeping the clipper oil and cleaning brush secure. On a critical note stowage of the cable is a bit of a nightmare as you struggle to keep it in situ whilst attempting to close the lid! A slot or two to stow away spare blades would have been nice! The pictorial "tension & oiling" label is a good feature - particularly the emphasises on "timed" lubrication - hopefully it will have the desired effect!

The supplied manual contains a considerable amount of valuable information which if read and digested will prove invaluable in enabling the end user to correctly apply the machine as well as keep it a peak performance. Well worth reading BEFORE you embark on clipping!

LISTER BLADE RANGE:
A2/AC - 2-4mm. Medium
A2F/AC - 1.5mm. Fine
CA2/AC - 2.5mm. Coarse
A2S/AC - 0.1mm. Surgical

Wizard Sheep 4mm.
For clipping sheep use cattle head unit
CC23/AC9 2.5/3mm. For clipping goats

NB. All LISTER blades are self-cleaning and the combs and ribbed to aid self cooling whilst operational.
Whilst all of the Lister blades can be used on the "Star" obviously one needs to look at the application first. The Wizard blade is fine on the "Star" for show shearing etc and tiding up a few sheep. Lister however do not recommend it for shearing more than a few sheep.

PREMIER BLADES can be fitted to this clipper.

+ An attractive looking light weight and really compact machine with a number of excellent features which will add to its overall appeal.

- Spoilt slightly by the noise level and a small element of vibration.

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION :
A new clipper from Lister is bound to cause stir of interest as nostalgic memories of the golden oldies of past years flood back in to the mind.

How many young girls started their clipping experience with a Lister Stablemate? A good few to be sure!

The Lister "Legend" certainly come from a famous manufacturing line and perhaps heralds the start of new things to come - long overdue - for Lister have trod much water in recent years whilst other manufacturers have forged ahead.

Once taken from the very splendid carry case the machine feels nice in the hand and is well balanced as well as refreshingly light tipping the electronic scales at bang on 1 kilo (Oh Lister have produced some real heavy weights in their time!)

The body casing - apart from a pleasant blue colour - is a nice smooth plastic with ribbed areas where you would expect your finger to grasp it. This improved ribbing in the hand grip area gives a nice feel and a good "purchase" whilst clipping. The hand grip girth - always an important point - after all this is where you grasp the machine for an hour or so - is a good diameter just about 3mm short of the much favoured "Hauptner 2000" or Premier 3000c both made in Germany

Once fitted with blades, oiled correctly, and started up the motor sounds more positive than the 45w Lister Star. Noise has always been a bit of an issue when it came to a Lister clipper. Few if any matched the noise level and motor tones of the more modern clippers from Germany which have set the trend in the noise stakes for this century. The Legend is a great improvement - although we would consider there is still room for further improvement! There was a very slight suggestion of vibration although certainly no way as bad as some makes on offer!

The on/off switch scores well with our test for emergence cut off should the occasion be called for. Ones thumb or finger connects with ease - although you may still require both hands if you need to be ultra quick!

The well tried and tested Zytal head is incorporated into the machine with the traditional type blade lugs and centre securing pin for extra holding. Lister designers have reverted back to attaching the head with two positive screws into the body casing as in traditional fixing on most Lister clippers, which we feel is the preferred situation. The crank head and roller are nicely engineered and the tensioning nut bolt and spring have a good positive feel.

Blade tensioning is pretty straight forward. - One of the really good points about all Lister clippers- is generally how easy they are to tension! The tension nut bolt and screw are all positive in their action and the nut is nicely designed to make tensioning really effortless, so you should experience few problems with tensioning blades unless you are very inexperienced! (Experienced or not, it is always a good idea to exercise a bit of practise before you get down to the serious business!)

A neat "reset button is at the rear on the side of the machine (Likely to be missed! - Well so frequently they are!) and an adequate sized air filter is positioned at the very rear under the cable assembly. Whilst when new the air filter has a fairly positive clip over form of fitting, we could imagine with use it might loosen and get rather easily lost. Bearing in mind the importance of the air filter in its role protecting the motor from those ever present hair particles - perhaps not one of the best concepts of design. Fixed with a secure screw would have better or one which is designed to slide alone a grove as perfected by the German Aesculap would have offered more security!

The cable sheath designed to protect from undue wear during use is well designed and suggesting considerable strength and ability. Cables are always at their weakest point here - whether a clipper or a power tool, so added protection and strengthening is always a big plus!

The actual cable is of a good thick diameter and of a rubber compound rather that the more plastic type cable which are harder to wrap when storing or for use in colder weather conditions. The cable has an adequate length of 4.9m and a moulded UK 3 pin plug suitably fused with a 3 amp fuse fitted. all of which is certified to meet UK electrical standards

As the manual points out a discipline is required from the start of use to ensure oiling of the blades and the clipper head. Lubrication of the blades cannot be over stressed with all makes of clippers and is a principle reason for poor performance, along with incorrect tensioning. Also due attention need to be given to oiling the crank head mechanism all of which is clearly and pictorially shown in the manual. It is most important you read this before use of the clipper and fully understand the information given.

Maintenance and storage is fairly straight forward with the usual things needing attention - these include regular oiling in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions - see your manual. Attention to frequent cleaning of the air filter, and after 100 hours of use it is necessary to remove the head for re-greasing. At the same time the gear wheel should be checked for signs of any wear. (Never run the machine without blades fitted as this can cause damage to the gear wheel teeth!)

The Legend is fitted with a built in overload switch which is designed to "trip" out if there is a problem with either the clipper or the electrical installation. This can of course also be pre-empted by clogged blades, lack of oiling, or excessive blade tensioning. Always ensure any trailing cable from a power supply is of adequate cable quality, if not power quality maybe restricted. If the re-set button "trips" having checked for any likely problem allow a few minutes to pass before you reset the clipper. If the problem persists you need to seek the services of an electrical engineer.

Principle uses of the Legend are for the clipping of horses and ponies as well as preparing cattle for shows or sales. A good purchase for those with one or two horses or small show herds of cattle. For horse yards containing large number and big cattle herds you need the heavy duty type machine. Whilst the Legend may well do the work perfectly - you might reduce its life if overworked!

LISTER BLADE RANGE:

IMPORTANT - Please note:
The electrical machines we offer for sale are principally for use with the electrical supply system operation in the UK namely 220/240volt.

+ Impressive light duty small clipper on most breeds of horses, certainly with the 2.3 mm steel wide blade one of the best of its type. Ideal for the nervous animal.

- Slightly limited range of existing wide blades. Rear positioned on/off switch.

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION:
The Moser "Horseline" Artiko is basically a cloned copy of the highly successful Moser Max 45 - one of the most powerful dog clippers on the market.

The Artiko inherits all these qualities and fitted with the 2.3mm steel wide blade will certainly often prove to be the difference between clipping or not on many a nervous animal.

With many horse breeds and resulting cross breeds occasionally one will meet with a coat texture which creates difficulties and in some case cannot be clipped successfully with the "standard" 2.3mm blade. Unfortunately this is difficult to predict without first attempting to clip. In most cases the "fine" 2.3mm version of this blade will prove more successful.

When difficulty is experience, start with slowing down the speed at which you attempt to "push" the machine/blade through the coat hair. Success may often be achieved if you just "crawl" over the area avoiding the blades becoming clogged with hair. This may seem a bit of a "pain" but then presumably you are in the first instant using this type machine because a traditional machine is not for whatever reason acceptable to either you or your horse or both.

If this is not the case then clearly you should not be using the "Artiko" or similar type clippers, and should use a tradition heavy-duty unit.

Originally launched and supplied with a gun metal blue Cera ceramic powder coated blade thought and often claimed to give a longer clipping life by retaining its sharpness due to the ceramic coating, however evidence was later to suggests this was not the case and there were a number of difficulties in the re-sharpening process even at factory level which lead to the blade reluctantly being discontinued in August 2008.

The "Artiko" is now supplied with the Moser steel "standard" 2.3mm size #10F (our code: CB0208) wide blades which will cope perfectly (if correctly used) with most horse coats. This blade has been widely tested over a good number of years both in the UK and Europe and in our opinion is as good if not superior to the ceramic coated blade. Designed and manufactured as a blade specifically for full body horse clipper it has always been way ahead of any similar type blades. The CeraBlade was basically the steel blade with a ceramic powder coating applied. Moser narrow blades are some of the best available, and are suitable for any facial work, hogging and feathers. For feathers and hogging purposes use the Moser blades with a higher percentage of teeth!

Any breed of horse may from time to time present a clipping problem, and clips can and often do vary from season to season. The skill of clipping is knowing how to approach such problems! This is when the experienced operator has the advantage! When using "detachable" blade clippers a change in clipping attitude is needed! Fast clipping with long sweeping blows is OUT! All you will achieve is a blade - its teeth clogged with hair, and a good deal of frustration! Tramlines may appear as an added bonus!

Instead take a relaxed approach to the task, allow the machine to do the work, using your hand as a guide and not an instrument of pressure. By slowing down the speed at which you attempt to "push" the machine/blade through the coat hair you will achieve in most cases a perfect clip. Short clipping strokes are better and more effective.

With sticky greasy areas success can often be achieved if you just "crawl" over the area thus avoiding the blades becoming clogged with hair. This may seem a bit of a "pain" but then presumably you are in the first instant using this type machine because a traditional machine is not for whatever reason acceptable to either you or your horse or both. Hence speed is not essential!

When using the "detachable" blade style clippers one should be aware no matter how good they are they are not of the same power as a typical traditional type machines. Invariably one is using this type of clipper because the horse objects for whatever reason to a traditional noisy machine. Seen in this role as an alternative to not clipping or heavy sedation they are extremely valuable and with proper use and application perform as well as any traditional clipper, producing some quality clips on a range of horse or cattle breeds.

Practical experience as with most clipping of any animal is invaluable! Knowledge is never complete - no matter how experienced the operator!

When doing full body clipping two blades are a wise precaution, just in case one suddenly goes blunt, which in fairness can happen with any make of clipper! For cattle or horse's heads and intricate parts of the legs (udders in the case of dairy cows) one can select a suitable blade from an extensive range of "narrow" blades.

Equipped with an efficient two-speed 45w motor, it has all the superior qualities associated with a quality German built product. The attractive style of the casing enhances a shaped handpiece, giving the combination of balance and lightness, which will be popular with many female users. Various features put this machine into a superior category, especially the ability to operate at two speeds and over prolonged periods without any signs of overheating. With a very acceptable noise level it is almost vibration free.

Moser Max 45/Avalon/Artiko clippers are now supplied with a improved drive leaver (Part number KM1245-7140) which has a red drive tip In with the accessories are two spare drive tips and a drive tip removal tool.

In keeping with most clippers an element of routine maintenance is required to maintain the clipper in peak performance. Drive tips do wear with constant use and clipper performance may become affected as a result - therefore routine checking of the tip for wear and if found subsequent replacement is recommended.

This is a routine job which most owners would find well within their ability and requires no additional special tool.

+ Unusual shape. Comfortable to hold. Very lightweight

- Vibration to high, noisy pitch. Not, as implied a Moser made product! Supplied wide blade not one of the greatest for horses

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION:
The first apparent professional horse clipper from Wahl of their own manfacture. Despite the elaborate Moser packaging including a smart Moser |Horseline carry case this is not a Moser, nor German made product, as the branding and case would have you believe! At best this might appear an attempt to mislead a potential purchaser into believing they were buying a Moser made product!

Aimed at the horse market this is a detachable blade machine, which will accept most other makes of detachable A5 type blades. Supplied with a size#10 Wahl "Competition Series" wide 1.8mm blade (This blade is certainly not our favourite blade for use on most horses, for full body work - we would prefer it supplied with a true Moser 2.3 mm steel wide blade which certainly clipped far better when used on test either for body clipping or legs/feathers!)

We were disappointed in the vibration levels, making it often not acceptable for use with a narrow blade on some horses heads and faces. Also, in the case of a really nervous horse the aggravating "barber" noise tone could be highly unsuitable! The variable speed adjustment may be valuable although most persons clipping horses prefer one speed - the fastest!

Production models we have inspected appear to have no electrical identification data plate fixed to the body casing, information regarding wattage or voltage, nor any indication of EU - CE rating as is the case with most other professional machines of this nature. (The CE rating is admittedly given on the box packaging and certain information can be read off the "switching Power Supply plug - not that any wattage rating is mentioned!)

It is too early to make any serious pronouncements regarding the expected performance especially as this is the first real Wahl made professional machine we have seen. It will have to compete against some well-established "peers" not least the real Moser "Artiko" and of course the more costly cordless Moser "Avalon! Both are currently rated as the most superior of their type for the nervous animal

To give the clipper credit it handles well, the material of the casing is pleasant to the hand, and it is both compact and lightweight. The position of the on/off switch is not ideal for any sudden emergency, and we cannot understand why manufacturers cannot grasp this point and will persist in putting switches in the most awkward places! The blade release catch is nice and positive and a decent size. Various makes of blades all appear to engage well and the clipper head is nicely protected against hair being sucked into the integral part of the motor.

Our main concern with this machine would be a possible question mark over the power and ability of the machine on a dirty or sticky coat, - is it powerful enough! We also have reservations about the Wahl wide blade supplied both the closeness and the clipping ability!

+ Very well engineered. Few go wrong, has an appetite for hard work!

- The "last century" appearance suggests it is well overdue for an uplift and some modern innovation. Been over taken in recent years by the far higher wattage and more modern Heiniger machines!

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION:
Produced by Wolseley who has a well-established reputation for really good engineering. Once a very popular clipper, especially amongst horse owners.

Unfortunately this is a machine now with a distinctly "last century" look, which rather says it all! A reinforced nylon head aids the reduction of the overall body weight and assists in lowering the general noise level produced by the motor.

The machine is fitted with a safety strap, and has a thermal overload cut out switch for added safety. The air-cooled motor and ventilated head ensures cool running and prolonged life. A sheep-shearing head cannot be fitted as the motor lack sufficient power.

WOLSELEY BLADE RANGE:
A2 - 2mm - horse/cattle - Standard blade
A2F - 1mm - cattle - Fine blade
A6 - 6mm - cattle/horses - Coarse blade
A7 - 7mm - horse/cattle - Ex coarse blade
Plucking blade -10mm - Show cattle/horses legs

Certain LISCOP BLADES can be fitted to this clipper.
