The DOUBLE K - ChallengAir Airmax dryer is equipped with two 6.1 Lamb motor 240v -50/60Hz. Both motors are assembled as one unit and are supplied fitted with front motor seal (Items 3 & 1) plus other component items including diagram items 20/6/7/2/8/20/6/9/4 and 11 as shown above
Carbon brushes - which are supplied with these motor unit - should be inspected regularly and require to be changed after about 500 hours of continuous use. If on inspection they appear worn below ¼ of an inch in length change immediately to avoid motor damage.
For instructions to replace carbon brushes - first unplug the dryer from any power supply to which it may be connected. Slide off the burgundy back cover which is a compression fitting and can be removed with ease. Undo and remove the 4 acorn nut from the front of dryer - these hold the motor in situ.
Pull the motor assembly out from within the dryer casing, and disconnect the motor power wires. See the diagram above - carbon brush insert - for the location of the brushes per motor
When changing the brushes on the front motor loosen the two screws holding the brush retainer, remove brushes and replace with new brushes.
IMPORTANT - Please note!
The brush has a small tab on the bottom which must be fitted into the slot on the motor frame to ensure proper positioning.
After the new brush is seated replace the brush retainer and tighten the two screws. In order to get to the second motor you need to remove all four bolts holding the two motors together. Remove both the back plate and the front motor to access the brushed of the rear motor. To change the brushes repeat these instructions as given for the front motor.
To re-assemble the motor unit back into its original position, having first checked the gasket is in good condition and properly positioned, reattach the holding nuts that hold the motor assembly, and make sure when closing the motor assembly the distance between the end of the front motor and the back motor mount is 4 inches.
Next slide the motor assembly back into the housing, line up the screws and reattach the acorn screws and re-connect the power wires (wires are colour coded).
Lastly make sure the Intake air filter (code 868) is installed before you seat the back cover in place.
IMPORTANT - Please Note!
Persons considering making repairs to electrical dryer themselves should be mindful such repairs may invalidate the warranty especially where it specifies repairs are to be carried out by an authorised service establishment or qualified engineer. Please refer to your instruction manual.
In addition repairs of an electrical nature or situations involving the main body casing being opened, may require an electrical test to be undertaken at an approved repair centre before the machine is used again
