GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION:
An attractive well-engineered compact battery powered horse or cattle clipper, which is bound to have a lot of appeal for those who prefer not to have trailing cables.

There are three "pack" versions of the Lister "Liberty" available - The Yard pack as described above or the alternative choices of the "Popular" pack comprises of the clipper with battery and charger, plus battery re-charger, power pack nylon belt, a 60m bottle of Lister oil, 3 sachets of R2 Lister grease, cleaning brush, screw driver, instruction manual, mains adapter (all presented in a silver durable carry case). This gives you the added option of being able to plug into the mains power supply.

The last option is the "Field" pack. This includes the Clipper handpiece, blades, powerpack battery unit, battery re-charger, 12v battery leads, power pack nylon belt, a 60m bottle of Lister oil, 3 sachets of R2 Lister grease, cleaning brush, screw driver, instruction manual (again all presented in a silver durable well designed carry case). This pack allows you to operated the clipper from a 12v battery.

The clipper is refreshing lightweight, but unfortunately in keeping with so many Lister machines rather noisy, which may make it not so popular with owners of nervous animals. This is a great shame as they are often the very customers for such a battery-operated clipper. On/off switch well positioned for quick reaction use in an emergency

10x1.2v nickel metal hydride cells give the battery a clip time of up to 2.5 hours. However the published normal recharge time is between 11 and 13hours. (Bit of an "over night" job!) The ultra light battery pack is supplied with a charger lead and plug. The charger can be fitted with interchangeable plugs for different overseas countries. As an optional extra, 12v battery leads can be obtained offering operators the choice to run the clipper off a standard vehicle battery.

Whilst you cannot fit a sheep head on this machine, for those with a few sheep wishing to dag or even do the odd full shear then try fitting the Wizard sheep blade. Like wise with a few dirty cattle to clean up for shedding or slaughter the cattle wizard blade will suit perfectly.

Should prove extremely popular with dairy farmers due to the total safety factor, when used in milking parlours. The machine has good manoeuvrability.

PLEASE NOTE: - Battery storage
Customers are advised to adopt the following procedures when storing a Lister "Liberty" battery power pack when it is not envisaged the unit will be used.

In the event of storage Power packs (battery units) should be discharged to within a total capacity but NOT completely - some remaining charge MUST be left.

During storage - at period not in excess of 6/8 week of storage Power packs (battery units) should be fully recharged.

Failure to do this can result in the Power packs (battery units) acquiring a "memory" and thereby limiting recharging fully.

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION :
Newly introduced model - hence our provisional ratings! However Liveryman have recently introduced several new and small clipper and trimmers to the market and to date these have proved themselves highly capable in a number of clipping scenarios not least with horses.

A similar shape and in many ways not unlike the Liveryman "Pet Master" in that it is an attractive red and black combination of colour making it rather eye catching, with an ergonomic shaped body which fits the hand nicely, and is lightweight, cordless and nicely compact for use. The clipper is fitted with a detachable type blade, made up of a titanium coated lower blade, and ceramic upper blade.
One of the special features of this clipper is the versatility of the blade, which is the type that allows you the flexibility of setting the same blade to any one of four separate positions. This therefore allows for clipping adjustment to be undertaken at 0.8mm, 1.2mm, 1.4mm or 2.mm, without having to change the blade. Apart from the obvious advantage of not having to purchase blades of varying sizes the convenience of the lever blade depth adjustment is enormously valuable when clipping.
A selection of four attachment combs allow for clipping to additional lengths over and above those offer by blade adjustment. However it is perhaps worth mentions for attachment combs to be successful and not come off the blade, full body grooming first is most important on especially cats and dogs.

This blade's versatility together with the machine size and its cordless ability, plus the low noise factor makes the clipper suitable for a wide range of clipping activities. Vibration together with noise levels are minimal and vibration really can only be detected on the most sensitive areas, so this should be an acceptable clipper to all but the most nervous of animals and therefore suitable for many equine owners seeking a machine for facial work, possible hogging and leg feather trimming - dependant on the blade position used and the texture of the animal's coat.

One criticism in relation to profession clipping of some of the traditionally clipped dog breeds is that the blade only allows a maximum blade clipping depth of 2mm. This can admittedly be increased by the addition of selected attachment combs, but in our opinion this might be a critical factor for the professional dog groomer who cannot afford the time spent hand grooming before clipping. Popular blades for many dogs are those leaving anything between 3.4mm and 19mm. Many professional groomers prefer blades that offer this range of clipping depth.

Domestic pet owners will find the cordless mode an attractive feature especially with a clip time said to be 3.5 hours when full charged - the re-charge time is two and a half hours. A long lasting Lithium polymer battery is internally fitted. Powered by brushless motor with a life time of 10,000 hours, it generates 5500 double cutting strokes per minute at a noise level by our scale of "2" As stated above we suspect a very slight degree of minor vibration might be felt by the more nervous animal especially on sensitive areas such as facial bone structure in the case of horses. Whilst very slight and it is not envisaged as a problem in the majority of animals, it is worth being aware of if you are intending purchasing for use on a really nervous animal, such as a cat or horse. (Test it first on your own skull!)

The blades are the "detachable" all one piece type with a blade face width averaging 46mm. Detachable blades do not require any tensioning - they are supplied already tensioned. Blades are NOT intended to be taken apart - so DO NOT attempts to unscrew them! Having switched the machine to the "OFF" position they are simply removed by placing the tips of your finger over the blade teeth and you thumb over the lower portion of the blade. Now using your finger ease the blade back - off and away from the clipper head. The blade on the production machine we tested was a little tight so expect to apply some pressure to remove - this may well be a "newness" factor and will ease with use. This is perfectly normal but could be perceived however be "off putting" too many users for the first time of this type of blade/machine, who may be uncertain of how much thumb pressure is needed!

Fitting this type of blade is again not difficult - they "snap" back on the clipper head with a "small" shaped "hook" which should be positioned into an opening the plastic head housing. This can be done with the motor running or switched of as preferred. Fitting the blade is well worth familiarising oneself with, and attempting a few times before removing or replacing a blade!

The instruction manual, (leaflet) is worth reading in full before you start any actual clipping! It contains valuable information regarding attaching blades, operating instructions including oiling blades when in use - regular applications of oil are important to keep the blades cool. The motor is said to require no maintenance with a service life of approximately 1000 hours of correct use. Adverse effects to the unit are basically "common sense" but ALL manuals are worth reading .............BEFORE you start to use the machine!

Oiling every few minutes is important - it is the only form of lubrication blades get and prevents then overheating when in use. Oiling blades should therefore become a discipline one adheres to - as is the case with most clippers. On the subject of oiling - you will be wise to purchase additional oil as the amount supplied is a fraction of what you will need and use!

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION :
Newly introduced model - hence our provisional ratings! However Liveryman have recently introduced several new and small clipper and trimmers to the market and to date these have proved themselves highly capable in a number of clipping scenarios not least with horses.

In many ways not unlike the Liveryman "Harmony" but with greater flexibility having the additional facility of a one and a half hour clip time on a single re-charge from the integral batteries. One's first reaction when picking the clipper body up, unattached to any battery, is a sense of "heaviness" compared to several other machines of a similar length and capacity. Although compact in overall length in keeping with other machine of the detachable blades style it does have a more bulky feel as well as being the perception of being heavy!

That said one has to weigh this factor against the flexibility of the machine which is rather exceptional!

The Harmony Plus has a smart upper body casing in a striking black and white combination making it smart and eye catching, with an ergonomic shaped body which fits the hand reasonably well. Currently the clipper is supplied with a detachable type A5 narrow #10 - 1.6mm and two Liveryman wide blades - size #10 1mm and 2.4mm.

EQUINE Owners
We do raise a critical note on the manufacturer's positioning of the "on/off" switch. As with the "Harmony" so too with the "Harmony Plus", the switch positioning makes no allowance for use in an emergence situation, when to switch off the machine at best becomes a two handed operation, rather than when the switch is placed in a forward position it can be quickly operated by using your thumb and you not having to focus on what you are doing - and not on what may be happening at that moment!

This would appear to be a persistent design fault with many clipper manufacturers who clearly do not have practical experience of animal clipping or understand an emergency situation - say with a frightened animal.

The new brushless motor is said to generate greater efficiency and coupled with the versatility of this machine in its various cordless modes, its size, the fact it uses "detachable" A5 type blades make it very attractive to many who clip horses. For nervous horses, especially the low noise factor makes this clipper suitable for a wide range of clipping activities including full body use - hence the two wide blades currently offered when purchasing are of particular value. One perhaps might question the value of the 1mm wide blade - a finished clip that could be described as a touch close for most horses!

Vibration whilst described as low does exist and could be a problem for those horses that have a sensitivity associated with vibration rather than noise levels. A point worth remembering should it be the intension to use the clipper on the head of such horses. In our opinion for a majority of equine owners with nervous horses, who seek a machine for full body clipping, hogging and leg feather trimming - dependant on selecting right the blade for the texture of the animal's coat, the small degree of vibration would not constitute a problem.

CAT & DOG Owners - Professional GROOMERS
Mobile professional Groomer's we would have thought would find the "Harmony Plus" an attractive package, especially with the clippers ability to use your existing A5 types of blades. Cordless of this nature and type would be valuable in any mobile situation

We would have thought as a cordless package it offer good value for those pet owners' involved in the more serious cat or dog clipping, as opposed to the casually clipped dog. Cordless although traditionally more expensive than corded machine do have one major factor - freedom from a trailing cord. For those without experience of using a corded machine - this is for the less experienced a "big" plus!

For those not familiar with the "detachable" blade - these are a one piece type blade with no tensioning required They are available as either - "narrow" or "wide" Narrow blades have a cutting face averaging 46mm width. Wide blades are from 66 to 75mm according to the make. Popular brands are: AESCULAP, ANDIS, OSTER, MOSER, WAHL

Detachable blades are NOT intended to be taken apart - so DO NOT attempts to unscrew them! Having switched the machine to the "OFF" position they are simply removed by placing the tips of your first two index fingers over the blade teeth and your thumb over the lower rear portion of the blade. Now using your fingers ease the blade back - off and away from the clipper head. The blade on the production machine we tested was a little tight so expect to apply some pressure to remove - this may well be a "newness" factor and will ease with use. This is perfectly normal but could be perceived however be "off putting" too many users for the first time of this type of blade/machine, who may be uncertain of how much thumb pressure is needed!

Fitting this type of blade is again not at all difficult - they "snap" back on the clipper head with a "small" shaped "hook" which should be positioned into an opening the plastic head housing. This can be done with the motor running or switched of as preferred. Fitting the blade is well worth familiarising oneself with, and attempting a few times before removing or replacing a blade!

The instruction manual supplied with the machine, (a folded leaflet) is WELL WORTH reading in full before you start any actual clipping! It contains some valuable information regarding attaching blades, operating instructions including oiling blades when in use - regular applications of oil are important to keep the blades cool. The motor is said to require no maintenance with a service life of approximately 1000 hours of correct use.

Adverse effects to the unit are basically "common sense" but ALL manuals are worth reading .............BEFORE you start to use the machine!

Oiling every few minutes is important - it is the only form of lubrication blades get and prevents then overheating when in use. Oiling blades should therefore become a discipline one adheres to - as is the case with most clippers. On the subject of oiling - you will be wise to purchase additional oil as the amount supplied is a fraction of what you will need and use!

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION :
An attractive coloured and rather smart, ergonomic shaped pet trimmer which fits the hand nicely and has good choice of detachable type blades available. It is suitable for domestic pet users with breeds that may be do not require the more traditional clips necessitating A5 type detachable blades, and for equine owners seeking a trimmer for facial work, possible hogging and leg feather trimming - dependant on the blades used and the texture of the animal's coat.

Domestic pet owners will find the cordless mode an attractive feature especially with a clip time said to be 2.5 hours when full charged - the re-charge time is two and a half hours. Long lasting Lithium polymer battery is fitted. Powered by brushless motor with a life time of 10,000 hours, it generates 4500 double cutting strokes per minute at a noise level by our scale of "2." We suspect a degree of minor vibration might be felt by the more nervous animal. Whilst slight - it is not envisaged as a major problem, but should be mentioned if you are intending purchasing for use on a really nervous animal, such as a cat or horse.

The blades are the "detachable" all one piece type with a blade face width averaging 46mm. Blades are NOT intended to be taken apart - DO NOT attempt to unscrew - special tools are needed! They "snap" back on the clipper head with a "V" shaped metal "hook" which should be positioned into an opening the plastic head housing. (Worth familiarising oneself with, and attempting a few times before removing or replacing a blade! The blades on the production machine we tested were tight and took some pressure to remove - this may well be a "newness" factor and will ease with use. Could however be "off putting!" to many as one could be uncertain of how much thumb pressure is needed!

Due to the style of the crank drive lever the blades can normally be put on with the motor in the off position. (We did however find it easier replacing a blade with the motor running!)Blades can be re-sharpened many times

(Pulling back from the clipper head) This is different to the traditional A5 type "detachable" blade where there is a hinge assembly, and the blade sits on a protruding "tongue". Essentially this a machine you buy if you have a horse of a nervous temperament and which will not accept the normal semi loud clipping machine, or if you have some physical impairment which makes it advisable to have a smaller machine.

The second point to be clear in your mind about is the pace at which you clip. Forget any ideas of performing "speed clipping" The operation is not a race against the clock, it is to introduce a new form of clipping which in many cases the horse will become in time to accept and the question of sedation with some is a thing of the past!

In short take your time - allow the clipper to do the work - (or which it is more than capable) - your hand is nothing but an instrument of guidance - NOT the driving force!

Lastly below is information regarding the most suitable blades - for horse of the type to which we are referring - you need to study and be aware of both of the MOSER Size #10 2.3mm WIDE BLADES

An evolution of the already popular dog clipper - the Moser Max 45, but in a cordless type mode, with increased power and marketed under the Moser "Horseline" range

This concept of a really lightweight and remarkably powerful cordless machine will have an immediate attraction to many horse owners, especially those with nervous animals.

From the first day of its launch in the UK the "Avalon" has shown it has no comparison or equal in its field. There must be hundreds if not thousands of horse owners who have found it possible to clip a nervous horse without sedation thanks to the quiet running all powerful "Avalon!"

Moser - always noted for prestigious German design and high quality, have excelled in producing an innovative "gem!" Lightweight and powerful the battery pack is intended to be worn off a waist belt or can be slipped into a coat pocket. With a two an a half hour clip time, and the facility of "detachable" blades - thus removing the necessity to tension - this machine has immense appeal to many.

With features identical to the already popular Max 45 the "Avalon" encompasses the attractive style of the shaped handpiece, giving a combination of balance and lightness plus all the superior qualities associated with a German built product. The noise level is especially low, and it has inherited the cool running features of all Moser machines.

Originally launched and supplied with a gun metal blue Cera ceramic powder coated blade thought and often claimed to give a longer clipping life by retaining its sharpness due to the ceramic coating, however evidence was later to suggests this was not the case and there were a number of difficulties in the re-sharpening process even at factory level which lead to the blade reluctantly being discontinued in August 2008.

The "Avalon" is now supplied with the Moser steel standard 2.3mm size #10F (our code: CB0208) wide blades which will cope perfectly if correctly used with most horse coats. This blade has been widely tested over a good number of years both in the UK and Europe and in our opinion is as good if not superior to the ceramic coated blade. Designed and manufactured as a blade specifically for full body horse clipper it has always been way ahead of any similar type blades. The CeraBlade was basically the steel blade with a ceramic powder coating

Due to the many horse breeds and resulting cross breeds, occasionally one will meet a horse coat texture which creates difficulties (for both "detachable" and traditional blades) and in some cases cannot be clipped with this type of blade. Unfortunately this is difficult to predict without first attempting to clip. Often in such cases if you try the Moser steel "fine" version of 2.3mm size #10F (our code: CB0218) wide blade, this resolves the problem.

Any breed of horse may from time to time present a clipping problem, and clips can and often do vary from season to season. The skill of clipping is knowing how to approach such problems! This is when the experienced operator has the advantage! When using "detachable" blade clippers a change in clipping attitude is needed! Fast clipping with long sweeping blows is OUT!

All you will achieve is a blade - its teeth clogged with hair, and a good deal of frustration! Tramlines may appear as an added bonus!

Instead take a relaxed approach to the task, allow the machine to do the work, using your hand as a guide and not an instrument of pressure. By slowing down the speed at which you attempt to "push" the machine/blade through the coat hair you will achieve in most cases a perfect clip. Short clipping strokes are better and more effective.

With sticky greasy areas success can often be achieved if you just "crawl" over the area thus avoiding the blades becoming clogged with hair. This may seem a bit of a "pain" but then presumably you are in the first instant using this type machine because a traditional machine is not for whatever reason acceptable to either you or your horse or both. Hence speed is not essential.

If this is not the case then clearly you should not be using the "Avalon" or similar type clippers, and should use a tradition heavy-duty unit. Having said that tradition clippers can also experience similar problems!

When using the "detachable" blade style clippers one should be aware no matter how good they are they are not of the same power as a typical traditional type machines. Invariably one is using this type of clipper because the horse objects for whatever reason to a traditional noisy machine. Seen in this role as an alternative to not clipping or heavy sedation they are extremely valuable and with proper use and application perform as well as any traditional clipper, producing some quality clips on a range of horse or cattle breeds.

Practical experience as with most clipping of any animal is invaluable! Knowledge is never complete - no matter how experienced the operator!

Head, cheeks and chins, together with legs and particularly the feathered fetlocks can be tackled more successfully with a selected narrow blade. Thick "feathers" can be easily dealt with by using a blade with "more" rather than "less" teeth - we would suggest a #30 or even a #40 but you may need to put an attachment comb on the blade to raise the cutting depth.

When doing full body clipping two blades are a wise precaution - this applies to whatever you clip, just in case one suddenly goes blunt, which in fairness can happen with any make of clipper or blade! For cattle or horse's heads and intricate parts of the legs (udders in the case of dairy cows) as stated earlier select a suitable blade from an extensive range of "narrow" blades.

Moser Max 45/Avalon/Artiko clippers are now supplied with a improved drive leaver (Part number KM1245-7140)which has a red drive tip In with the accessories are two spare drive tips and a drive tip removal tool.

In keeping with most clippers an element of routine maintenance is required to maintain the clipper in peak performance. Drive tips do wear with constant use and clipper performance may become affected as a result - therefore routine checking of the tip for wear and if found subsequent replacement is recommended.

This is a routine job which most owners would find well within their ability and requires no additional special tool.
