HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

+ Highly Impressive! Traditional German quality combined with outstanding design and engineering skills. Intended to give years of reliability. The FAV5 mains version has quickly shown its ability in the many aspects of the grooming world both in the UK and worldwide. It has produced quiet outstanding performance results in the field of the nervous animals to become one of the most accepted clipping machine for nervous animals most especially horses!- The FAV5 CL cordless should be expected to equal and build on that success l.

- We have never approved of rear end positioning of on/off switch for emergency use

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION :
A "detachable" A5 blade powerful professional cordless clipper of exceptional low noise level with virtually no vibration, which will take all makes of recognised A5 type detachable pre- tensioned blades both narrow and wide.

The Aesculap FAV5 CL has similarities in style to the very successful Heiniger "Saphir" (Which we understand Aesculap had considerable involvement with during a period of joint collaboration between the two companies!). However the powerful motor enables you to be more ambitious in your clipping scope! The FAV5 CL is more compact than the "Saphir" - shorter by about a half an inch (with both blade and battery fitted) and the body casing has been carefully designed to provide a slim line "shaped hold" for maximum "grip" comfort when operating. The overall visual and practical effect is one of a really nice compact slim handpiece!

Another instantly recognised feature when you switch the machine on is the smooth unmistakable "Aesculap" motor tone. Aesculap clippers have always been noted for motors that emitted smoother tones than many other similar machines and the FAV5"CL" builds on this quieter motor feature with vibration eradicated.

Essentially designed with the features FAV5 main clipper, but a cordless version! - A "detachable" A5 type blade using professional machine slightly shorter in length than the mains powered FAV5 and with a slimmer styled body casing that is extremely comfortable to hold and work with. Typically German! - Well thought through design and of course engineered and manufactured to perfection!

German made products have a long history of being engineered to a standard close to perfection, and as one would expect from the top German veterinary manufacturer, the Aesculap FAV5 CL continues on that legacy - especially important for any professional dog parlour clipper where product reliability is the keyword.

Peasridge was privileged to conduct intensive practical field trials with the FAV5 mains machine and with the cordless version prior to production. As we expected the FAV5 CL fully lived up to the very high standards of performance set by the FAV5 mains machine and fully met the criteria's we have come to expect from Aesculap over many years of association.

Price conscious customers may not always appreciate the number of engineering features that lifts a machine of this calibre into a superior category and which places it ahead of other and often cheaper competitors:

A ball bearing universal motor provides great durability

A smooth low noise level motor tone - the hallmark of Aesculap quality!

The expectancy of a long working life of reliability

A smooth running motor with low cutting stroke ratio generating virtually a total absence of vibration.

A ventilation system eliminating overheating in prolonged use. A ventilation system eliminating overheating in prolonged use.

The motor and component parts in an unbreakable body casing

Made in Germany, by highly skilled German engineers

Two year manufacturer's warranty.

Manufactured to a standard rarely seen these days.

Given normal treatment, disciplined cleaning after use, and attention to the minimal routine maintenance, then a FAV 5 cordless will generally be with you for several decades which is normally a lot longer than many other - less expensive machines - and whose service and repair bills may very soon exceed the initial investment of an Aesculap! No professional business can afford it principle tools to disrupt the working day with breakdowns - hence the importance in buying right!

Yes - the retail price is higher than other more economy machines! Aesculap make no apology for producing high quality product without compromise! A superior product usually works out much cheaper in maintenance costs over the many years of service it gives.

DOG GROOMERS:
Whilst many dog groomers are traditionally user of "mains machine", it could be worth thinking about some of the advantages reliable cordless machines now offer. The new generation of cordless clippers are a vast improvement to those of previous decades with major advances in battery technology. Batteries have become less unreliable in terms of holding charge, much lighter, less expensive, and far easier to maintain in peak performance given that you use them correctly. As the Heiniger "Saphir" has shown - quality cordless machines are quickly appreciated in dog grooming circles and eagerly sought when groomers are assured of high quality and machine that will allow them the continuing use their existing blades!!

The FAV5 offer this and more! Whilst some may feel the purchase price is somewhat higher than they had wished to invest, consider for a moment realistically the regular repair and maintenance bills of the more "attractively" priced machines and the financial effect of a robust business being inconvenienced with mechanical breakdowns. One major breakdown couple with the interruption of your business can change the perception of price!

PET OWNERS - HOME CLIPPING:
Most start with a cheap fixed blade clipper only to learn that despite all that is written on the packaging - this is not the machine - nor blade for the family pets clip! Those with "clipped breeds are not seeking the standard of show clipping, just simple husbandry clipping! It is the "A5 type detachable blade using clipper that is needed, and for many who lack the experience of the professional yet are equally capable of clipping their dog - the cordless machine is perfect! In many instances not only does a cordless machine offer greater flexibility in clipping when and where you want, but it eliminates having to worry about trailing cables whilst you work!

EQUINE OWNERS:
The Aesculap FAV5 "CL" Cordless offers owners of almost impossible to clip nervous horses a real chance for the first time to clip your animal! - In many cases without the need for sedation and the associated veterinary cost! If your horse is not of a nervous temperament then this machine is NOT for you!

Whilst projected at the dog grooming market, the equine owner with a clipper shy horse the FAV5 CL advances clipping to a higher level than the amazing abilities of the FAV5 mains machine!. This must surely be the answer to the clipping nightmare so many endure!! At last a professional and powerful "cordless" small and compact clipper with a "smooth tone" low level of working noise that many horses will find not disturbing..

On all our extensive tests on nervous horses with the mains version - whether Thor'bred, hairy cobs or natives - we found the smooth and soft noise of the clipper blades when operating plus the lack of any vibration made for a more contented horse and a stress freer operator. On so many occasions those testing it for the first time on their really nervous horses before they subsequently purchased freely admitted they had experienced a "first " in the experience of "normal" clipping (often to without the added cost of veterinary sedation!)

We would stress that as good as any clipping machine is - and both the Aesculap FAV5's are in a league of their own when it come to clipping nervous horses, it is important the operator acquires knowledge of the various detachable wide blades which are suitable for the task in hand. No two horses have identical coat textures, clips can and often do vary from season to season. There are a number of "wide" blades on the market, not all have been designed "exclusively" for full body clipping of horses. Intended and designed for the large dog breeds and perhaps they happen to clip a horse! Different blades will perform better on various clipping tasks! Seek advice - blade knowledge is important! When you use the A5 detachable blade using type clipper, you need to think and clip differently to the traditional type machine and blades.

Our own extensive field trials with both mains and cordless versions suggest very convincingly that both the Moser 2.3mm standard #10 wide and the Aesculap 2.4mm standard full wide #10 blade are the blades best suited to equine full body clipping, whilst others may give a result, these two blades have proved themselves highly successful. In the case of certain thor'bred breeds with very fine bordering on almost "wispy" type coats the Moser 2.3mm fine #10 wide may prove a more successful blade to use. We give a good deal of information on both blades, please read and compare both if applicable.

It is worth mentioning that the manner in which the operator uses theses machines - is - crucial to the quality of the performance and clip. It is "essential" the operator takes a "relaxed" approach to the clipping task, does not rush the clipping and at all times allows the machine to glide through the coat, rather than attempting to push the clipper at a pace faster than it can cope. The operators hand should be an instrument of "guidance" not attempting to "push!" All too often those clipping appear to require too clip at a pace that is not commensurate with the blade - whether traditional or detachable, and no matter what make of machine is used! This must be acknowledged and applied from the start!

Other factors such as individual length of a cutting stroke is crucial - short lengths, rather than long "blows" produce far better results than clipping in long "lawn mower" stripes. Criss cross clipping action in confined areas rather than open up extensive areas give a more professional finish. At all times the blade face must be flat to the animal's body surface."Aquaplane" and the result may well be "tramlines!"

Frequent oiling of blades whatever machine used is essential too! Lubrication is the only way all makes of blades can keep cool and running in a performance that gives a satisfactory clip. The Aesculap cordless clipper is no different! A small quantity of oil every 3/5 minutes should be the discipline!

VETERINARIANS
For the laboratory or veterinarian in clinical work - where reliability and continuous use is of paramount importance - a machine of this calibre will easily undertake large or small animal work whether in a university laboratory or busy surgery!

LONG HAIRED CAT & RABBIT OWNERS:
Our extensive tests convince us it is especially ideal for clipping any long hair nervous cat breeds due to its ultra low noise tone, as well as the absence of vibration. Cats are not one of the clipped species that are generally easy to handle and a cordless machine offer the owner or operator additional comfort in the knowledge that they do not have to consider restriction of a cable when the machine is in use or the trailing cable on the floor. The compact nature of the FAV5 CL is an added attraction to the already stated low noise level and absence of vibration. The narrow blade range will allow you to a wide choice in blade selection for all nature of tasks you may wish or need to carry out!

An ideal choice for those who have to tackle the daunting task of cutting away Matts from both long haired cats and rabbit breeds

In addition to long haired cats it is perfect for routine, and hygiene use on the many pet breeds of both long and short haired rabbits. Owners of rabbit breeds with a valuable commercial fibre will find the clipper perfect for all types of "fibre shearing", and the wide range of blades available can be used to cope with every requirement.

ANGORA GOAT SMALL FLOCK OWNERS:
Light and compact, it is perfect for removing the valuable coat product of the Angora whether goat or rabbit. With a wide range of A5 detachable blades that can be selected for whatever the task confronting you, you will have no problem in seeking a solution to your needs.

ALPACCA SMALL STUD OWNERS:
Many small studs of alpacas are successfully clipped or "sheared" annually with small detachable A5 blade type clippers. Generally with the lack of powerful cordless machines, mains machines have been used. Now the Aesculap FAV5 CL offer the opportunity to clip what is not one of the easiest species - in cordless mode! The smooth low tone notes of the FAV5 are beneficial to the operator and perfect for your animals in ensuring that minimum stress is created. Using similar wide blades recommended for full body horse clipping and switching to a narrow blade where it is felt more suitable the FAV5 CL offers considerable flexibility.

As with equine full body clipping, so with the Alpaca, the correct blade selection is crucial and again both the Moser 2.3mm standard #10 wide and the Aesculap 2.4mm standard full wide #10 blade are in our opinion by far the best blades suited for quality clipping performance of a high value fleece.

+ Impressive traditional German quality derived from outstanding design and engineering skills. Intended to last and give years of reliability. Impeccable trial results in very day situations with normal working procedures.

- The price! Restricted to Favourita blades only. Poor positioning of on/off switch for emergency use

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION :
Essentially the Favorita II but in a cordless version - typically German! - Manufactured to perfection!

For those users of the mains powered Favourita II - now you have the opportunity to go "cordless!"

The downside? Well the price may make you grunt! However you have to realise quality of this class is never likely to be cheap! If you accept the price then brace yourself - the blades are pretty pricy too! Just in case you are thinking about alternate blades to the Aesculap range - forget it this baby only takes Aesculap Favourita blades - which as you may have guessed - can only be used with ........Favourita clippers!

With the blades - like the clippers one should remember you are buying top quality, and quality does count especially when it comes to the steel used for the manufacturer of blades. The Germans over many years have perfected the skills of blade manufacturing way beyond that of others and the Favourita blade is far too often judged on its price rather than the design and quality it delivers.

That said - for many dog groomers the individual cost of the Favourita blades - no matter how superior they are - and that is undisputed - they still represent a hefty investment if like many groomers you need not only a selection of the range but also a number of back up blades.

That aside, - if you are of the mindset to equip yourself with tools of engineering perfection, seek reliability and certainly one of the best available, .............and are willing to pay the price for such quality then you can do no better that purchase either the mains or cordless version of this very fine outstanding machine.

Given normal treatment, disciplined cleaning after use, and attention to routine maintenance, then a Favourita will generally be with you for several decades which is normally a lot longer than many other - far less expensive machines - whose service and repair bills may very soon exceed the initial investment of an Aesculap! A professional business can ill afford it principle tool/s to disrupt the working day with breakdowns - hence the importance in buying right!

Peasridge can speak with some authority on the Aesculap Favorita CL, having been involved with it in the early test mode stages and later with pre production models. During this time we were able to get a number of Favourita "fans" as well as a good few none Favourita users to put our test machine through its paces.

Our testing sources are by no means perfectionists in clipper use or maintenance, but they are good solid run of the mill hard working professional groomers and busy veterinary practices - who will give any machine a fully practical test, probably "not much tender loving care" and most likely oil not as frequently as recommended! They like you seek reliability as well as performance in their working tools!

The Aesculap Favorita CL - as expected (For Aesculap are renowned for meticulous attention to detail and constant testing before any new machine is released for testing let alone issued on to the public market) passed all the testing trials and real life situations with ease and complete reliability. Dog groomers tend to use a far wider range of blade than vets, much of whose work is of a surgical nature rather than husbandry/cosmetic.

Whilst the dog groomer confronts coats of all textures as well as dogs of all degrees of dirt husbandry care, the average veterinary surgeon has to cope with blood and puss - all of which punish blades, performance, and frequently !reliability!" All of which emphasise the importance in making the right selection when choosing a clipper and blades

The "CL" is compact, - not as small as some admittedly, nor as light- but we and a few of our users preferred the slightly larger body and the more "positive" weight- it felt more solid in the hand and gave one a feeling of confidence whether in use on a horse or clipping away on a smaller domestic animal. Rather like a "Mercedes" - Solid built to last! - Nothing ditched to reduce cost!

One is struck by the near perfect balance! So often in the past cordless clipper where noted for their "in-balance" due to a very heavy battery pack in the rear which became very weary to operate for an hour or more as the clip progressed! The "CL" battery power pack is ultra light - weighting a mere 10 grams.

The body casing is in traditional Favourita "red" and like the Favourita II the body is shaped to coincide with the hand grip but is a smooth casing causing us to question whether some users would have preferred a form of "grip" built into the moulding finish to give additional purchase when using the clipper!.

The noise level is low - it has the tone that is unmistakably an Aesculap machine! Soft, mechanically smooth running and an absence of vibration - no doubt brought about by the lower cutting stokes at which the motor powers the blade (Cutting strokes are rated at 2300 per minute) will make it popular with nervous horse and cat owners.

To many with a technical eye this may seem low - however Aesculap engineering have pioneered low stroke without loss of power thus ensuring that as a cordless clipper it is one of the most powerful available!

Blades are traditionally cool running with correct oiling, and in keeping with most machines the drive lever mechanism need checking and possibly replacing annually dependant on frequency of use in order to maintain peak performance!

The battery pack - of which the machine is supplied with two, are incredibly light and compact (10 grams each) They slot with ease into the rear housing and the clipper may be charged with the battery fitted or divorced from the body. Using Li-ion batteries (Model GT201) the DC voltage rating is 7.4v with a charge capacity of approx: 1.2Ah. The charge time is stated as 50 minutes + 5. Clip time 60 minutes.

The Favorita CL is NOT supplied with a blade. The reason is that with such an extensive blade range it would be hard to judge the best blade for individual needs which vary considerably between dog groomers, horse owners, and vets.

The Charger unit is attractively designed, lightweight (0.45kgs) yet of decent size, robust and with two charging ports, one will hold the battery whilst still engaged in the machine - the other is for a detached battery pack. The charger is fitted with small "pads" for anti-slip on any smooth surface. The cord and moulded plug slots into the rear of the charger. Lead and plug - UK 3-pin fitted with 3amp fuse - is roughly 2m/79-inches in length.

The clipper is sold with an attractive newly designed hard plastic carry case of solid construction and designed to last and protect your clipper in transit or storage.

Dimensions when closed are:
Width: 14-inches/35.5cm
Height: 12-inches/30.5cm
Depth: 4 and 3/8th- inches/11cm

Case fastening clips (two) are solid and close securely and with ease!
The inset sleeve has various slots which are functional and the items fit securely! A space is provided for additional blades!

PLEASE NOTE:
Whilst a blade is show in our image for display purposes - it is not included in the sale of the machine. This machine IS NOT SUPPLIED WITH A BLADE

+ This is an impressive trimmer, which produces some outstanding work especially on cattle, horses and dogs. Equally as good as many professional machines. Ideal for serious quality clipping whatever the breed.

- Very hard to find fault with - maybe the ability to dual use in main mode would have been useful

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION:
Made by Moser of Germany, this innovative and well-designed cordless trimmer offers continuous clipping from two interchangeable battery packs each providing a clip time of 60 minutes. Re-charge time is achieved comfortably within one and a half hours.

With a remarkably low noise factor and minimal vibration this is a superb trimmer for any horse owner seeking a quality "companion" trimmer to compliment a full body traditional machine. Whilst the price may seem higher than alternative trimmers - this really is in a class of it own and well worth the extra cost!

Many discerning horse owners willing to disregard the higher price, who are seeking a quality finish for heads and face, especially were exhibition turnout is involved, express delight and complete satisfaction at the results produced from this outstanding trimmer.

The angled clipping head is fitted with a "snap on" blade. The innovative blade design has built in adjustment giving five cutting adjustments from 0.1mm to 3mm with further cutting depth obtained from the attachment combs supplied. Moser claim that the blades will remain sharp for periods in excess of one year! Blades are capable of being re-sharpened several times.

Many end user working on a range of animals including horses and dogs report amazement at the performance and overall quality of the clipping produced by this quiet superb little trimmer, which more than fulfil the concept of German quality!

The trimmer offers a number of applications with cattle for facial grooming, show clipping, plus dairy udder and dairy "top line" work. It also has considerable potential as a professional dog groomer' machines. A number of uses also exist within veterinary surgeries with small animal practice.

+ Identical to the-"ARCO" but in hard carry case. One of if not the best trimmers available, which produces some outstanding work especially on horses legs.

- To many potential purchasers perhaps viewed as expensive for a "trimmer!

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION:
Branded under the "Horseline" range this will to many viewers appear perhaps an identical clone of the "Arco" - well recorded as an innovative and uniquely designed cordless trimmer with an amazing cutting performance.

The "Adelar" copies all this, and instead of being box packaged it is supplied in a well designed and spaciously laid out hard carry case in typical "well organised"German fashion!

If you value your trimmers - you will certainly appreciate the case and for the few pounds extra in price - very worthwhile!

Originally supplied with a ceramic coated "CeraBlade" this blade has now been discontinued and the "Adelar" is supplied instead with the steel standard blade as supplied also with the "Arco" which is identical but for the ceramic coating.

Ceramic coated "CeraBlade" proved difficult to re-sharpen due to the ceramic coating hence they were reluctantly discontinued. However from the many field tests on horses we have done with this excellent trimmer using the standard steel blade, in our opinion the steel blade is just as good as any ceramic version!

The "Adelar " like it's box packaged sister trimmer the "Arco" is certainly one of the most versatile of trimmers around and one we have every confidence in recommending especially for horses. Whether you are hogging manes, clipping legs, fetlock, or facial work, we think it is the perfect trimmer considering the ultra lightness, overall length, and low noise factor and almost lack of any feel of vibration - to say nothing of the cutting ability of the blade and its 5 point adjustability.

If brilliant for horses, then it is equally as good for many smaller animals such as especially nervous cats or smaller dog breeds especially for the removal of matts. The obvious versatility in the veterinary field makes it a serious consideration for many vets.

Supplied with two 60 minute clip time batteries - recharge time being 90 minutes. The angled clipping head is fitted with a "snap on" detachable blade. (No more tensioning or blade alignment!) The innovative blade design has built in adjustment giving five cutting adjustments from 0.1mm to 3mm.

PEASRIDGE star rating: DOWNGRADED to THREE STAR
Rating 70%

+ One of a few cordless professional clippers with two batteries. Fast re-charge time. Very compact unit!

- DOWNGRADED due to battery problems. In many outlets only sold with one battery! Gets a touch expensive when you start to buy extras!!

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION :
The Oster Power Pro Mk2 certainly has a role for use on the nervous horse - small, relatively pleasant to handle -- certainly an improvement on the earlier model although still not wonderfully balanced compared to some, compact and with low noise level plus relative low vibration.

We do however feel obliged to make customers aware we have "DOWNGRADED" this clipper to a THREE STAR RATING on the grounds that regrettably there has been a developing pattern of new Oster power pro Mk II batteries which appear to either be supplied ex factory in a non working state or rapidly malfunction after purchase and subsequent use.

Whilst it clearly is not a case of all batteries at fault there is an unacceptable proportion which have come to our attention, and whilst we have drawn the matter frequently to the attention of the UK distributor, who "presumably" has advised the manufacturer, to date we find there appears no evidence of a re-dress of the problem as malfunctioning batteries are still being received.
.
Veterinary and Equine customer considering making a new purchase may wish to consider an alternative machine - The Heiniger "Saphir" which with over a year of buoyant sales on the UK market has proved itself so far faultless. (product code: C0117)

We would recommend for full body horse clipping the Moser wide blade 2.3mm blade as one of the better blades for the many and various textures of coats likely to be experienced rather than the Oster matching wide blade.

When doing the fetlocks or hogging try switching to a #40 or #30 blade for those denser and more coarse areas and clip freestyle to avoid going to close. An attachment comb could be considered.

Introduced as the successor to the popular "green" bodied Mk 1 Oster Power pro (A few other colours existed as well) the clipper head and hand grip shape basically remains unchanged other than for the casing covering which has been clad with a pleasant soft "non slip" material with a rubberise feel. The new battery attachment is however slimmer and now follows the shape of the clipper. One instantly notices the improved balance the new styled battery affords compared to the rather poorly balance earlier Mk 1 model!

Clipper and battery are claimed to be around 15% lighter than the earlier model! Oster state that the clipper drive lever delivers a more powerful sweep as a result of being driven by a slightly more powerful motor - thus it is claimed the Mk2 clipper gives a greater and superior cutting performance! The benefit of this would presumably be particularly noticeable when clipping for example, a horse using a wide detachable blade.

Unlike the way it is normally supplied in the UK, we offer the Oster Power Pro complete with TWO batteries (In the US it is also sold with two batteries for continuous clipping!) We feel customers will require the same - continuous clipping facility - rather than have the added expense of purchasing an additional battery at the time of purchase or later!

Considering Oster still supply their mains powered A5 clippers in boxes, it is refreshing, to see a case of such quality being supplied with their cordless machine! The clipper is beautifully packaged in a spacious lightweight aluminium case - weighing fully loaded - clipper battery and accessories - a mere 2.4kg (if you buy from Peasridge due to the fact it is then supplied with not one but two batteries!) Carefully padded with foam cut out compartments (unlikely these will last long with normal use but they look good when new!) - Both clipper and the entire accessories are stored safely. All very nicely designed and laid out!

Case dimension:
Height: Less than 12-inches/30cm allowing for the folded handle and locking catches
Length: Just over 11-inches/28.3cm
Depth: 4.75-inches/12cm
Un laden weight: approx 1.8kgs

The battery unit is said to be "improved" with the introduction of the new type of NIMH battery units. However it has to be said battery reliability on new models has been "disappointing" to date - resulting in the clipper being downgraded in our star assessment!

For those who want to know…………. the nickel-metal hydride battery, abbreviated NiMH, is a type of rechargeable or storage battery similar to another well know battery type the "Nickel-cadmium" (NiCd) but using a hydrogen-absorbing alloy for the negative electrode instead of cadmium. As in NiCd batteries, the positive electrode is nickel oxyhydroxide (NiOOH) A NiMH battery can have two to three times the capacity of an equivalent size NiCd. However, compared to the lithium-ion battery the volumetric energy density is lower and self-discharge is higher.

It is said one useful feature of these batteries is they do not have the annoying memory feature as often common with some earlier types of batteries, but you will need to recharge and discharge these batteries several times before they reaches their "optimum" performance when first purchased! Also if the battery is not used for a period of time, or has been stored away unused re-charging will again be necessary.

Whilst the manufacturer claims the battery delivers "state of the art intelligence charging to maximum its working life, they do add that every few months if you are not a regular user you should switch on (remover the blade first) and run the clipper until the battery is fully discharged. Then recharge accordingly. This could well apply to horse owners, who engage in seasonal clipping with a long spell of in-action in between. If you are the typical busy dog groomer or veterinarian and use a cordless machine, well you probably need not bother!

When fully discharged the normal recharge time for the battery is between 50 and 60 minutes. You can check the running status of your battery at any time by placing it in the slot provided on the charger and observing the LED light in the centre.

LED light on the front alerts you to the state of play……….
Red light continuous - indicates re-charging is required.
Green light continuous - indicates the clipper now ready for use
Red blinking light - You need to invest in a new battery - Red light says - "kaput"

The charger is far more compact and smaller than the old black charger of the previous model, and the two slots for spare blades have been done away with! Of course this is all about a single battery so only one recharging slot also!

There is a connection point provided on the rear on the charger for a plug to power the recharge unit off any 12v supply such as in a vehicle. This is not currently available in the UK but expected shortly when it will be available as an optional extra - at extra cost!

A slot in the groove of the charger assists in ensuring the battery is correctly offered into the slot for recharging - so no fear of getting it incorrect! So easy you could do it in the dark!

As with the previous Mk1 model you can re-charge with the clipper handpiece attached to the battery or just the battery on its own. One small but useful as well as thoughtful addition to the charger unit is that a set of four tiny suction pad feet have been added to the underside of the charger to ensure it stays put and does not slip off a shelf or work surface!

VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

+ As one of the few cordless professional small animal clippers with two batteries available we rate this the best we have seen and tested to date. Fast re-charge time. Very compact unit! Constant reliability! Excellent value considering the quality and available alternatives!

- Hard really to find much to criticise - maybe a larger blade release lever would have been more user friendly - although in fairness it compares well with other makes ! The On/off switch could be more accessible.

GENERAL PRODUCT INFORMATION :
When we saw the "Saphir" for the first time at the major German Trade Fair "Interzoo" in 2008 we felt we were looking at a machine that had an ability to bring a new bench mark to the world of the cordless machine.

Several months later when we received a production model to try and test - many veterinary practices all over the UK confirmed our suspicions - a potential winner!

All the vets who tested the machine asked the same question - how soon can you supply one!
Heiniger are renowned Internationally for their large animal clippers and perhaps even more so for the high quality shearing equipment they manufactures, so say nothing of probably manufacturing one of the most comprehensive cutter and comb blade range designed for every shearing possibility.

In over two decades we have seen Heiniger establish themselves in the UK - both in the field of sheep shearing and also in the equine world, facing strong traditional competition, to become one of the leading players in the UK market, and a major International manufacturer both in respect of sheep shearing and large animal clipping.

The "Saphir" we feel confident will very soon establish Heiniger as the first choice amongst the many veterinary practitioner seeking reliability and quality combined! Hopefully the same machine may one day emerge in the form of a corded machine - projected at the professional dog groomer. Certainly when others of it calibre fall short of these very basic requirements - it set new bench marks for quality and reliability which will be eagerly grasped by the veterinary end user.

Whilst cordless clipper are not always the preferred choice amongst professional dog groomers with the vast majority selecting the corded models, the "Saphir" will no doubt be a serious contender with the many mobile groomers and those domestic pet owners who prefer cordless to mains.

The nervous horse owner may well find interest in this machine also and assuming the Heiniger wide blade is proved to be suitable for most horse coats or they select and use the already proven Moser #10 2.3mm wide blade we have every reason to expect satisfaction.

Features including the low noise level plus relative none existence of vibration will be especially appealing to the end user. When doing the fetlocks or hogging try switching to a #40 or #30 blade for those denser and more coarse areas and clip freestyle to avoid going to close. An attachment comb could be considered.

The "Saphir" is delightfully lightweight - a mere 0.44kg - even with battery attached, nice and compact - under 205mm/8-inches including a narrow blade attached , comfortable to both hold and operate whether in a male or female hand - the clipper body casing having been shaped to give a slimmer grip just were you hold it! The powerful 35 watt motor has soft motor note that is instantly associated with high quality engineering of the Germanic type. Free of vibration its single speed motor provides 2650 double cutting strokes per minute.

As a veterinary clipper it will invariably be judged against the Oster Power Pro Mk II - the clipper almost universally used by UK vets! Sadly the new Mk II Oster has not in our experience proved to be reliable in so far as the battery unit has been concerned especially!

Many vets have experienced frustration as well as additional expense when discovering Mk I batteries would not fit the new Mk II battery charger with expensive knock on costs if your Mk I charger failed and you had to replace it! If that was not bad enough one too often found the battery failed to charge correctly!

Another annoying feature - although in fairness most vets accepted it - probably due to no alternative - the Power Pro is noticeably heavy and slightly unbalanced when connected to either Mk I or Mk II batteries
Now there is an alternative - the "Saphir" has a lightweight battery at 100grams compared to the Oster battery at twice the weight (200grams)

The "Saphir" from the end user perception has to be the nicer balanced machine to use! The operating feel of the "Saphir" is robust powerful and professional - it offers a confident clip whether surgical or more prolonged. One critical observation - the rear mounted switch is not in our favourite position for an emergency stop! We would have preferred the switch to be more accessible.

The "Saphir" is powered by a lightweight Lithium-ion batteries - it is supplied with two for continuous clipping. Each battery has a clip time of 50 minutes with a fast re-charge time of 45 minutes

Lithium-ion batteries (sometimes abbreviated Li-ion batteries) are a type of rechargeable battery in which lithium ion moves between the anode and cathode. The lithium ion moves from the anode to the cathode during discharge and in reverse, from the cathode to the anode, when charging.

Lithium ion batteries are common in consumer electronics and are one of the most popular types of battery for portable electronics, with one of the best energy-to-weight ratios; they have no memory effect and a slow loss of charge when not in use.

The light and compact charger unit provides two charging bays. If the clipper is placed in the charging bay, (Bay with raised back surround.) the charger will charge the clipper. The spare battery in its charging bay however will not be charged. Remove the clipper from its charging bay, the charger will then charge the spare battery. A red led light indicating charging is in progress, a green led light indicating charging has completed. In the rear of the charger casing slots enable it to be wall mounted if required

Unlike some other machines a separate car charging unit is considered not necessary. With two batteries, you have a total of about 100 minutes clipping time - each battery lasting just under one hour.

If a vet starts with two freshly charged batteries in the morning he/she should come through the day without experiencing charging problems.

As with most detachable blade taking machines the "Saphir" can be used with any of your existing detachable A5 type blades including those of Oster, Andis, Aesculap, Moser and Wahl manufacture, as well as the newly created range of fifteen blades currently available from Heiniger which closely mirror the Oster range in the various sizes.

Supplied without a blade in consideration that most end user purchasing this excellent machine will most likely already have their own detachable blades, the Heiniger range offers two surgical type blades - a size #50/0.4mm and a size #40/0.8mm. Sizes #30/0.8 and #15/1.5mm. A popular size #10/1.8mm and both sizes #9/2mm and #8.5/2.8mm. Body blades include skip tooth and full blades in sizes #7/3.2mm, #5/6mm and #4/9.5mm. A toe blade - size #5/8 at o.8mm and a wide blade #10W/2.3mm.

Additional blades to the range may follow in the future.

Heiniger detachable blades are made to a high standard backed with many years experience of successful blade manufacture and are supplied in a satin steel finish. Packaging is innovative with information on compatibility, blade use and size.

Most of the standard "snap on" type attachment comb can be fitted to blades from blades size #50 to size #8.5. Blades of all makes below this size do not accept attachment combs, due to the increasing size of the comb blade. Also combs will not fit the "detachable" wide type blades as used for large dog breeds or for full body horse clipping.

The purpose of the attachment comb is to leave a greater length of un-cut hair than the blade alone would normally leave. It is important to remember however that if you use an attachment comb you must be very particular with the grooming of the coat. There MUST NOT be any tangles or knots - otherwise the comb may come off the blade, it may well refuse to pass through the hair, and the clipping process may be painful to the animal!

The "Saphir" comes packaged in a superbly laid out hard carry case - well designed and perfect for the "on the move" practitioner, for storage in surgery, or the mobile groomer, or pet owner - even down to three compartments to store your surgical or other blades! Few manufactures provide such refreshing attention to detail! One of the nice aspects of this well laid out case is that all the items store well in provided compartments - even down to the charger cable - usually impossible to pack away!

We were highly impressed with Heiniger consideration of consumer needs and especially their very precise and well written instruction manual text and supporting images all of which are done in a most informative and easily understood manner to embrace both the professional and novice user! This is refreshing to see at a time when many non professional are turning to the skill of clipping and fulfils the requirements of current UK legislation in safely standard.

PEASRIDGE CONCLUSION!
With a limited choice of professional 35watt cordless clippers currently available the appearance of the Heiniger "Saphir" will be eagerly welcomed by many veterinary practices who we feel sure will buy the Heiniger "Saphir" and will find they have made a sound investment!

For a long time the veterinary market has been starved of choice in the cordless field and Heiniger have surely recognised a gap in the market desperate for a new and reliable professional detachable blade using cordless clipper which would take the wide range of blades as might be found in existence in any normal busy veterinary practice.

Peasridge have over several months tested the "Saphir" with a variety of busy and large practices with a number of vets and nursing staff using the machine. We have shown it to a number of serious horse clipping owners, clipping for show or other specific purposes. All without exception have spoken highly of its performance, ease of use, power and battery qualities, using either their own blades or the supplied Heiniger blades.

It is with this practical experience of the Saphir and our long respect for Heiniger made clippers and blades that we have every confidence in commending this clipper to all - whether professional or pet owner.

IMPORTANT CUSTOMER INFORMATION
PLEASE NOTE: In the current manual supplied under section 4.1 "Scope of delivery" there is a mis-leading statement suggesting that the clipper is provided with" clipperhead" - i.e. blade.

Both Heiniger and the UK distributor have selected to market and sell the Heiniger "Saphir" in the UK without a blade on the basis that most units would be sold to veterinary customers who would be likely to have their own selection and choice of blades. Peasridge agree with this perception and therefore we to sell the machine WITHOUT a blade and at a price which reflects this!

You will find we do clearly state "NO BLADES" in the "supplied with" information, and also in the text above
