With most small animals and domestic pets - including cats electric nail grinders can be generally easier to use than traditional type nail clippers for many operators/owners. They can be used to file shape and smooth the nail/claw both quickly and with the maximum efficiency.
The motor tone is relatively low considering no electrical rotary appliance is ever likely to be totally silent, and so for most animals the motor tone will not be a problem. However with some cat, a majority of who do not like any "claw treatment," an introduction to the noise of the motor before use on their claws would seem a sensible step as in the same way of introducing a clipper before use.
Bearing in mind the "filing" head is rotary it is sensible to take precautions to ensure all hair or fur that might be protruding over or beyond the nail/claw is kept free of the fast rotating grinder head! A simple old nylon ladies stocking will act as a good item to use - fit over the foot and allow the claw/nail to protrude through the stocking, but enclosing the hair/fur!
